No Time to Die for Pars 007
Thursday, 17th Mar 2022Kevin O’Hara:- “We need to try and kill the game off when we get these chances while keep the chances out at the other end as well.”
Being back in the starting eleven for the last two league matches has been a boost to Dunfermline striker Kevin O’Hara. Returning after being used off the bench with regularity since his previous start at Inverness in November, Kevin said that he had been working hard to impress manager John Hughes:-
“He has put me in for the last two games and I am obviously delighted about that. I just kept the head down, not really causing a fuss, just coming in every day, working hard and playing in bounce games when we have them.”
The manager recently described Kevin as a natural goalscorer and that was music to the 23 year old’s ears:-
“It is great to hear as a striker that the manager thinks that you are one of the best goalscorers at the club and I just hope that I can keep showing him that.”
Statistics show that Kevin’s seven goal tally makes him the club’s top goalscorer and he is hopeful that he can add to that in the eight remaining league games:-
“I have tried to score as many goals as I can and that is what I am aiming to do towards the end of the season. I just hope that we score the goals but it doesn’t matter who it is in the team, as long as we are getting the right results.”
The striker’s role is a lonely one with just one upfront but Kevin is up for it and knows that also requires setting up chances for those attacking from deeper:-
“I have done it before, done it plenty of times and it has probably changed my game a wee bit. I cannot always run in behind, I have to come and link up the play as well. That included Josh (Edwards) that I was supporting on Saturday. I cannot take it myself all the time, I need support up there as well.”
Kevin who joined Dunfermline in July 2020 after impressing at Alloa Athletic feels that the team is now creating a lot more chances and it is now down to taking those chances when they come along:-
“We need to try and kill the game off when we get these chances while keep the chances out at the other end as well.”
With Morton next up on a Friday night he is mindful of the most recent meeting at Cappielow, a heavy defeat that he watched from the bench:-
“I think we have definitely improved as a squad. That was a low point in the season for everybody involved at the club but I think we have put it behind us now and we have progressed since that game and we are looking forward to the game on Friday night.
“It is going to be a tough game but a game that we are going to have to take to Morton because Morton will probably will sit in with their shape and we are going to have to be patient to try and break it down.
“We have to take each game as it comes, treat it like every other game. We are going to go out there and try our best to win the game. That’s all we can do.”
Revealing that he cannot help being keen to check results after games the former Scotland under 19 cap stressed that you have to focus on your game and just make sure you get the right result.
“If other teams pick up results that help us or they don’t - there is not much that we can control about that, we have to just focus on our games.”
The importance of Friday’s fixture at home to Morton has been recognised by the club and admission is only £5 for everyone. Kevin is hopeful that a big home support will provide a welcome boost and help turn East End Park into a fortress for the final five home matches of the league campaign:-
“It will be good and it is a good thing that the club has done. It gets a lot more fans in and that will be good on Friday night. We need to win every home game, that is our aim - we obviously want to win every game - but we can’t get beat at East End. These are games where we should definitely be picking the three points up.”
