Dunfermline Athletic Football Club were saddened to hear the news of the death of lifelong Pars fan Alan Hunter, on 28 February 2022. His son Martin has provided the Club with the below.
Alan was born in Dunfermline to Jim and Isa Hunter, and soon became a regular attendee at EEP with his dad. He had very fond memories of the Scottish Cup successes and famous European nights of the 60s, with the tale of the trouncing of Valencia in 1962 a particular favourite.
Alan moved to Edinburgh in the 70s and was a founding member of the Lothian 68 Supporters’ Club in the 80s, continuing to follow the Pars across Scotland with his son Martin. While Alan enjoyed the Pars’ numerous successes over his later life, such as the emotional promotion-winning campaign of 95/96, the cup finals of the 00s and subsequent (albeit brief) European campaigns, he would also take great pleasure in enjoying a pie, Bovril and cigarette during the half-time break of a dire goalless draw at Somerset Park, on a cold Tuesday night in February. As long as he was watching the Pars, he was happy.
Alan’s funeral will take place at Warriston Crematorium, Edinburgh, at 3pm on Thursday 17 March, and any of his Pars friends would be very welcome. Please contact martinhunter61@hotmail.com for further details.
