New Goalie Coach arrives
Wednesday, 2nd Mar 2022Replacement for Owain Fôn Williams who was released this week,
Dunfermline Athletic have secured the services of 43 year old goalkeeping coach, Neil Alexander until the end of the season. Announcing the replacement for Owain Fôn Williams who was released this week, manager John Hughes said:-
“We have brought in Neil Alexander from now until the end of the season. Deniz Mehmet is still a couple of weeks away, so Neil is still quite fit and he will be doing the goalie coaching and we will be sitting him on the bench until Deniz is back fit.”
Alexander who was goalie coach at Dundee United from 2018 until 2021 is an experienced coach after a career that saw him play for Livingston, Rangers and Hearts as well as down south with Cardiff City and Ipswich Town. In total he has made 595 senior appearances. The gaffer explained that everything gets reviewed at the end of the season but in the meantime he will work with keepers Jakub Stolarczyk and Deniz Mehmet:-
“He worked with Deniz up at Dundee United so he has much to say about Deniz. I am thinking that he will know how to get the best out of Deniz and it is up to Deniz to push Jakub the full way. Like most goalkeeping coaches and goalies union, it is up to these guys to get to know each other and I am quite sure that Neil will enjoy the challenge and try and get the best out of them.
“Even speaking to him this morning, Deniz is not doing much handling so just working with Jakub, I asked what him ‘what do you think’ and there was a roll of the eyebrows that meant wow - there is a real proper goalkeeper there.
“He is fit and kept himself in good shape. He went in goals this morning and you can still see that he has it in him. The movements, the routines, the talking and the passing - he is just another one that needs to get up to speed. He hasn’t done it for a while but after the training he said ‘wow, just to get in there again, get in about it again’. It will not take him long to get up to speed.”
