Dunfermline Athletic

Connection with Community massive

Tuesday, 22nd Feb 2022

“It was just emphasising what he feels Dunfermline’s all about, and we’re all on that same page.”

Twelve days ago Dunfermline Athletic officially announced the appointment of David Cook as their Chief Executive.

David was formerly Chief Commercial Officer at Nottingham Forest FC, where he held that post for nearly five years. Immediately prior to that he held a number of roles including: Senior Sponsorship Manager at Etihad Airways; Business Development Manager at Celtic FC; and International Business Development Manager at Everton FC.

This week manager John Hughes talked about his meetings with the club’s new CEO:-

“He was over with Thomas Meggle last week. I think he’s got his own agenda, in terms of finding out how the club works and all that. I think they’re happy with the football side and what we’re trying to do.

“David’s got his finger on the pulse. I had a meeting with him last week, he introduced himself and told us what he expects and what he’s all about. Really it was just emphasising what he feels Dunfermline’s all about, and we’re all on that same page.”

John Hughes has always maintained that it is vitally important that those at the helm at the club are devoted Pars fans. He held that with great value in his initial discussions with chairman Ross McArthur and welcomes the fact that David Cook is another local man with the interests of Dunfermline Athletic Football Club in his heart:-

“It’s massive when you’ve got that connection with the community. I’m quite sure David will be well known round about the community and if I’m a Dunfermline supporter and I know the guy that’s going in then you feel safe.”

David will have a wide-ranging remit and will ultimately manage the football club on a day-to-day basis, but he will also possess a key strategic role on the DAFC Board. While things off the park take shape with the much appreciated support of investors, DAFC Fussball GmbH, Hughes also recognises the role that those representing the club on the park have in the success of the football club:-

“We’ve had a hard two years, with Covid and results and bits and pieces, but we’ve got a massive part to play and I don’t think that goes unnoticed with the players. It’s our job to bring everyone together.

“If we’re playing football matches and winning games and entertaining, the supporters will come out. If the supporters come out it brings all the community and everyone associated with the Dunfermline family together. That alone should be a great motivation for you to go and do your business.”
