Gala Day success for Dom
Wednesday, 9th Feb 2022“It`s a great part of the season to get Dom back in there and challenging for that first team spot.”
Dom Thomas played the full 90 minutes in a bounce match away to Gala Fairydean on Tuesday night. Manager John Hughes called it another key part of his midfielder’s rehab.
“The thing about Dom is you need to keep the reigns on him. Although he`s not had the game time, we’ve been watching him; he`s been training well, pain-free, which is the most important thing.
“I would have no qualms playing Dom from the start, or coming on as a substitute, from right at this moment in time because I think he`s pain free, and his fitness levels are getting up. We might just have to speed him up a wee bit. Dom`s telling you he`s ready to go but he needs a few games.
“It`s a great part of the season to get Dom back in there and challenging for that first team spot.”
The friendly in the Scottish Borders was important to keep those who did not play at Ayr last Saturday ticking over but the manager explained that most recent signing, Efe Ambrose did not make the trip south:-
“It was a wee bit early for Efe in terms of two days of training for him, with the intensity, certainly because of what we do on a Tuesday. We felt it would be better for him to stay here and get that intense work that we do on a Tuesday. That`s another good day`s training under his belt.
“It`s bringing it all together and hopefully after doing the business, staying injury free, all of them are giving me a headache come Saturday.”
A double from Kevin O’Hara and goals from Matty Todd and Rhys Breen gave the Fifers a 4-3 win.
