Bobby Kamwa first interview
Friday, 28th Jan 2022BK - “I’m trying to do the best I can, but at the same time I want to help this club as well, because it’s given me a platform.
Pars new signing from Leeds United Bobby Kamwa explained that his move north came about after a call at the weekend from his agent, former Dunfermline player, David Moss telling him that his old club would like him to trial in a game on Tuesday. In his first interview at East End Park the 21 year old related the events that followed:-
“I looked at the club and the history, and I thought it wouldn’t be a bad place for me to go to. David Moss told me he was a club captain here and he said it`s a sleeping giant. He spoke well about the club and he really wanted something to happen here, so it`s good that it all happened. I`m just raring to go. So I said to him, ‘alright, I’ll go there’. I played the game on Tuesday but unfortunately we lost but it was a good performance, the lads played well and were good with me.”
Admitting that it was hard for him to understand John Hughes, it was clear that he was impressed with the Cameroon born striker and following the match managed to do a deal. Bobby was really happy with the move. He was impressed by the stadium and immediately formed the opinion that Dunfermline deserve to be in a much better league position than they currently hold:-
“I’m just hoping that in the second half of the season we can do something good and keep the club up. I watched the highlights of the team, and what really stood out was the style of play. I was quite surprised that they`re in that position in the league because they play some good football, so that didn`t really put me off.
“I`m ready. I`ve done a few tests and it shows I`m ready. I`ve been training hard at Leeds because you don`t really get too much resting time there, so you`re always pushing. I`m ready to go and hopefully we can get a win on Saturday.”
Even though Morton secured a 2-2 draw against Raith Rovers on Friday night, a win over Queen of the South could lift the Fifers above their Greenock rivals. Bobby is hoping that improving Dunfermline’s fortunes can be coupled with strengthening his own progress. He wants to kick on during this on loan period and help the club as the club tries to help him.
The player from Douala in Cameroon started his football career at Leeds when he was 13 and after coming through the youths, for the past two seasons he has been training regularly with the first-team under boss Marcelo Bielsa:-
“I was waiting for my chance to come at Leeds but it’s hard when you’ve got a side that’s doing well and doesn’t get many injuries.
I was just waiting and waiting and this season I thought it’s time for me to play and I decided it was the best time for me to come on loan and play some football.”
Marcelo Bielsa has imposed tough and intensive sessions upon all the players at Leeds and Bobby admitted that there was a degree of adaptation to undergo:-
“He gets you really fit for games. The hard bit about it is murderball. It’s 11 v 11 and you’ve got coaches on the pitch holding balls, so if a ball goes out they’ll throw one in.
There are no fouls allowed - it’s really tough but you get a lot of out of it.”
Bobby has also benefited from training with quality players like Patrick Bamford:-
“I’ve learned a lot from them because I’ve been training with them regularly. I’ve seen what they’re doing and I’ve been trying to learn from that. Hopefully I can take that to here.”
With his contract at Elland Road up in the summer, the move to Dunfermline puts the player in the ‘shop window’
“I’m trying to do the best I can, but at the same time I want to help this club as well, because it’s given me a platform. So, it’s only right for me to give them my best.”
Bobby speaks with a distinct Yorkshire accent, despite French being his first language but mastering Scottish dialects might prove to be as big a challenge as the football:-
“I`m still getting used to the Scottish accent - when someone speaks, I`ve got to take a second to really understand!” Then there is the distinctive tones from JH to master and Bobby comments further on that one:- “I`m able to hear but sometimes I have to get my ear out to listen to him properly!”
