Steven Lawless is John Hughes first signing for Dunfermline and the winger will be able to play for the club from the start of January. The 30 year old arrives at Dunfermline having already made 381 senior appearances for six different clubs suitably fulfilling the Pars manager’s desire to add experience to his squad.
A product of the Motherwell youth system, Steven Lawless but did not get a first team start until the age of 20. That came in between two on loan periods at Albion Rovers. He made his Motherwell debut against Clyde in the League Cup in August 2011 getting on the scoresheet in the process as the Steelmen recorded a 4-0 victory at Broadwood. Steven would also make an appearance in the Scottish Cup against Queens Park later that season, again Motherwell recorded a 4-0 win.
Steven was released in May 2012 but he was swiftly signed up by Partick Thistle. He had an impressive season for the Jags as he was a star performer scoring no fewer than 14 goals as Partick won promotion to the Scottish Premiership. After making 228 appearances for Thistle and scoring 35 goals Steven moved on to Livingston in August 2018.
He had two seasons in the Premier League with Livvy before being signed by League One side Burton Albion. The 29-year-old was out of contract at Livingston, where he had scored 14 goals in 75 appearances. He was manager Jake Buxton’s first signing at the Staffordshire club and Steven would make 20 appearances for them before he returned to Fir Park in January 2021.
He made 10 appearances for ‘Well last season and six this season before leaving in October by mutual consent.
