Calm football can go down a storm

Two goals from Kevin O’Hara and two from Craig Wighton ensured the 4-1 victory over Stenhousemuir on Saturday and a second round draw in the Premier Sports Cup away to Rangers.

The 22 year old striker while pleased to be on the scoresheet again for the second week running was quick to point out:-

“I know it is an old cliché but the three points are the main thing to try and get qualification through to the next round. That is the most important thing.

“We want to try and go as far in every competition that we play in and obviously going through to the next round it gives us confidence going into the Morton game next Saturday. We will get back into training and working hard to prepare for that.”

Maybe Kevin can call it hard work but he also admits having great fun playing as a striker in this Dunfermline team, especially with Nikolay Todorov and Craig Wighton alongside him:-

“It is brilliant. You can see the quality that the boys beside me are producing, Toddy and Wighty, it is excellent so far and we are all loving playing in it. It is just nice calm football and there are plenty chances so as a striker you are going to love that.

“We all have different qualities. Toddy is a tall target man which gives me and Wighty a lot of space to play in. He is good at doing the physical work and it benefits the team as well. Wighty has his qualities as well so I think we compliment each other really well.

“Toddy can stay central and me and Wighty can float around him. That is what happened on Saturday, Toddy didn’t score, but me and Craig got goals and Toddy has scored other goals already.”

Kai Kennedy came on for the second half on Saturday to make his Dunfermline debut and while he adds flair, pace and danger it also increases the competition for places in Peter Grant’s team. Kevin’s reaction to that was a positive - “that is what you need”.

“It brings out the best in everybody. Training is competitive every single day, that is the way it should be and whoever is performing well will play.

“I know Kai has come in but we have Ryan Dow who is still to come back as well and he will be a good addition. There is plenty competition but it is healthy competition.”

It is no surprise that the arrival of his old boss at Alloa is good for Kevin, he claimed:-

“I’m enjoying it a lot with the new manager coming in. I have worked with him before which really helps. It gives me confidence but it is really good and I’m really enjoying it. I am ready to kick on for the season again.”

The Peter Grant effect is not exclusive to Kevin who added:-

“Every day we are willing to learn, everybody is listening to the manager and his ideas. He has different ideas from last season but if you look at the games we have played so far his style is working for the boys and we are really enjoying playing as I said earlier which is good.”

The Championship kicks off for Dunfermline with an away trip that the team is really looking forward to. Kevin hopes that the new style Pars can go down a storm with a win on Clydeside:-

“We can’t wait to get back in on Monday just to start working on the Morton game. We are looking forward to that game, it is a good game to start with and a tough one. We know what to expect down at Cappielow so we will be right up for the fight and challenge as well.”
