Nikolay off at the double
Sunday, 11th Jul 2021“I came here to score goals but I could not do that without my team mates in the attacking third we were excellent.
The Pars close season signing from Inverness got off to a flying start with a debut double against Partick Thistle on Saturday. Nikolay Todorov described his two goals as a bonus:-
“I am really happy, first of all to grab the win and obviously the two goals are bonuses. I came here to score goals but I could not do that without my team mates in the attacking third we were excellent.
“We are still working on things and making mistakes that we know that we should not be making. There are loads of positives to take from the game and it is important for us to get the season started with a win. I know that it’s a cup but we are in the competition to do well.”
Partnership with Kevin O’Hara and Craig Wighton
“Not just with Craig but with Kevin as well. Kev had a good last season, Craig had a good last season and me personally had a good season. The boys have been brilliant and the three of us have managed to create some decent stuff on Saturday.
“I would not have been able to make my two goals without my team mates. I am really happy to be here and playing alongside them.”
The 24 year old who joined Dunfermline in June 2021 was happy to point out his move south was motivated by the ambitions that were revealed to him:-
“Before I came here I spoke with the Chairman, I spoke with the manager. We had a long chat and I have come here to win the league. It is one thing to say it on the side of the pitch but it is another thing to go and do it.
“We have a lot of stuff to work on and to improve in every single game and in training sessions. We just need to keep ourselves down to earth and work towards our ambition.”
Nikolay is now looking forward to returning to play St Mirren, a side he scored against in the Scottish Cup last season.
“It is a tough schedule and St Mirren are a Premier League side who did really well last season. It is definitely going to be a tough game. I know we won on Saturday but we were speaking in the changing room saying that we need to stay down to earth and keep improving and the results will come.
The 24 year old Bulgarian striker added:-
“There are lots of positives to take from Saturday’s game and we just need to go and build on to that. We are really looking forward to that. It is another test against a Premier League side. That is where we want to be, so it is going to be tough but we are looking forward to it.”
