Comrie seeking edge at Cappielow

“We need to put Saturday to the back of our minds pretty quickly, we need to learn from it and go again.”

Dunfermline full back Aaron Comrie felt that his team only got what they deserved from the game against Inverness Caley Thistle. He told the media post match:-

“It was a flat performance and there was no real edge to us. It is unlike us but we need to find that and find it quick because we have a lot of games coming up.”

Aaron was responsible for a goal line clearance from a fierce Shane Sutherland strike, could not explain why the performance had not come up to expectations. He quickly dismissed suggestion of a covid hangover but speculated:-

“We didn’t pick up enough second balls, we didn’t keep the ball well enough. It is a sore one because it was a good chance for us to go and pull a wee bit further ahead in the league at an important time in the season.

“I thought Inverness maybe had the better of the chances. Our goalkeeper probably had the more work to do but the boys all know that so we need to go again.

“I don’t want to make covid an excuse. There was a huge importance on the Inverness game, whether it is covid or nor I’m not sure.”

The result saw the Pars drop to third place in the Championship and a tightening of the challengers for the play off places. Five points now separate Morton in eight and Raith Rovers in second. The Rovers, Dunfermline and Dundee all sit on 30 points but the Pars having played one game less. For Aaron there is no doubt that there is little scope for slipping up in any way:-

“We need to find whatever it is that we are missing and find it quick because between now and the end of the season we have a lot of games and we need to pick up points or we are going to start dropping down the league. All the boys know that but I’m confident that we can turn it around.

“The Inverness game was a good chance to build on last week’s performance, we have not managed to do it but we have a good game to look forward to in the Scottish Cup.”

Morton are the opponents on Tuesday night when the Scottish Cup resumes. It means that Dunfermline will play three games in eight days as the matches keep coming and keep coming during the six weeks remaining of the league season.

“We have such a cluster of fixtures. It is a tough old game away to Morton, I don’t think we have won there this season.”

In that the 24 year old who was signed from St Johnstone in May 2019, was correct that, but the last Dunfermline win at Cappielow was 25 March 2017. He does, however, hope that his side’s cup form of earlier in the season returns in the Scottish Cup:-

“We had a little Betfred cup run but I’m sure that the boys will pick themselves up again and it is one that we are looking to go and win.

“I think their home form is pretty good, we know how tough it is going to play there. We need to put Saturday to the back of our minds pretty quickly, we need to learn from it and go again.”
