Stevie Crawford was delighted with a result that took his team into second place in the Championship:-
“Obviously we`ve had a tough couple of weeks but they showed character again today. We created chances and forced the Morton keeper to make several saves. We could have scored more goals but I thought that we were dogged in our defending.”
Speaking of character how pleasing was it to see the way Craig Wighton recovered from missing the penalty?
“Brilliant and I`ve said in there. If you`re brave enough to go up and take a penalty kick, the keeper saved it, he is maybe not happy with the way he connected to it but then you have to keep putting yourself in goalscoring positions. Craig has done, it was a great move. Scott Banks front foot steals the ball and with a weighted pass to Dom Thomas and it is a great delivery and Craig, as all good strikers do in that six yard area, headed it home.
Stevie Crawford post Morton

“We have missed football and I said earlier in the week that we were going to face COVID at some time during the season. The big positive for me was the performance we didn’t actually, as the game went on, look as if we were unfit.
“We managed to cope with it, there were boys out on that park that probably weren’t feeling great. They didn`t show any signs of that to Morton because I think they would have jumped on that. I thought Gus (Macpherson) and Andy (Millen) have got them well organised, I`m sure they`ll both do well.
“Morton made it difficult for us but we looked like we were going to score goals today and we closed the door at the back as well to restrict them to very few chances.
“We never actually had an interruption into training. Again, because it`s so fluid, the situation that we find ourselves in, we have had to adapt training with numbers or whatnot. And as I say the application, the boys have given my coaching staff, enormous credit for trying to be creative and putting on sessions that keep boys to a certain level of fitness, with restricted numbers.
“And then as I say, the boys you know have had a difficult couple of weeks and we were hurting from the Queen of the South game. There was pressure on us today because at a club like Dunfermline you want to be at the top of the league.
“We knew that there was an opportunity to go above Raith Rovers if we won the game today but we had to be respectful of Morton who have made it difficult in the two games that we have faced them in this season. There was a lot of character shown from everybody involved in the game today.”
Near the end Lithuanian defender Vytas Gašpuitis was introduced for his Dunfermline debut, SC continued:-
“It would be a nice feeling for him because through the week, we were able to welcome him to the press. Because of the restrictions that we are under that is really the first time probably his face has been seen in at Dunfermline.
“He’s been training extremely hard. In all honesty he came probably not having played a game in two months. So it`s like a pre-season from him you know, during a season. So he’s been great in terms of his attitude. He only got on for a couple of minutes, but right away you could see he`s up for a physical battle.”
