Dom buzzing after isolation release

“With all these games we know it’s a chance for us to put a lot of points on the board.

After his second period of self isolation for Dom Thomas just getting out for a walk in his local park came as a great relief to the 25 year old but he, more than most, is looking forward to the match against Morton on Saturday.

Dom found himself in isolation in late January / early February and after making a comeback at Dumfries on the last Saturday in February was then disappointed to find himself in self isolation again in March. No surprise then that the match against Morton is one he is looking forward to:-

“I think when you are away from football you get a buzz when being back involved. Obviously, the games are going to be coming thick and fast now, which is a good thing. I think every footballer wants that. It’s definitely something I’m looking forward to personally, and I think all the rest of the boys will be the same.”

With their matches postponed, the Pars have missed out on the opportunity to take points off Raith Rovers and Dundee but have also seen Dundee, Queen of the South and Morton move closer to them and Raith Rovers edging away from them in second place.

The Pars do not have a midweek fixture next week but in the month of March, they will squeeze in another four league games and a Scottish Cup tie against Morton. Dom sees that as a great opportunity to put points on the board:-

“With all these games we know it’s a chance for us to put a lot of points on the board. Hopefully we can take three points on Saturday and take it from there.

“It’s tightened up, with us missing games and having games in hand. You have just got to take every game as it comes. It’s a very tight league now, but I feel we’re in a good place, albeit we came off a poor result at Queen of the South.”

The match at Dumfries was Dom’s first after a month out. He started the match and played 73 minutes before Scott Banks came on to replace him. He reflected:-

“I felt like it was a massive game, which it was, but for me it was extra special to get back out and get back playing. I thought we played very well, just didn’t get the result we wanted.

“I’ve had a lot of time to watch the game back now and I felt we played very well, especially in the first-half. Obviously, we missed that penalty and if we had taken that I think it would have been a different game.

“That’s football, if you don’t take your chances sometimes it will come back and bite you. But I think there were plenty of positives to take from that game and if we play like that then we’ll pick up more points than not in what’s left of the season.”

With ten league games remaining for Dunfermline, they sit third in the league having taken 27 points from their 17 games. 19 of the 27 points have been won at home. Dom continued:-

“Overall, if we’d been offered this at the start of the season we’d have been delighted. But, for us, we need to get ourselves together and go on a good run.”

After a 2-1 defeat at East End Park in December and a goalless draw away from home, Dom is keen to get a result over Morton especially since it still niggles that he should have scored at Cappielow:-

“Unfortunately it fell on my right foot. Again, we felt as if we should have won that game - but we didn’t. So, we need to put things right. At home, I think you’ve always got to fancy yourselves and, for us, we can’t look too far ahead and not dwell on the past.

“We’ve been good at home. I am repeating myself, but I think we should have won that Morton game as well - but we didn’t. So, we’ve got a chance against them on Saturday and that’s the good thing with football, you’ve always got a chance to right your wrongs.”

After the Covid-19 enforced break Dom claims that the team is eager to get back on the football pitch:-

“It was just unfortunate, just one of those things we can’t do much about. You’ve just got to take it. I think we’ve dealt with it before, and we’ve dealt with all the protocols that have been put in place this season, and dealt with them well.

“For us now, that’s done now, it’s in the past, we’ve got to look forward to the football. The boys will get a real buzz to get back playing. I think when you’re away from something you realise how much you miss it. So, Saturday can’t come quickly enough for us.”

Dunfermline Athletic can confirm that seventeen year old Miller Fenton (pictured above) has gone out on loan to East Fife.

Miller attended Queen Anne High School and is a product of the Fife Elite Football Academy. The left back has featured for Dunfermline at reserve team level and been on the first team bench this season, most recently against Dundee in December.
