Victory for covid protocols
Tuesday, 9th Feb 2021“We have tried to do everything in the right manner, respecting protocols and continue to do that.
Difficult driving conditions caused by heavy snow prevented Dunfermline training on Tuesday and that came as a particularly great disappointment to Dom Thomas who his manager revealed was due to return to training following a positive covid test. Dom’s last game was against Ayr United on 23rd January and quashing speculation over causes of the 24 year old’s absence Stevie Crawford today said:-
“Dom tested positive for the virus. There are certain issues that we are facing at this moment in time and it is something that people look into and try and create more. He has faced it and come through that isolation period to be able to come back to training.”
It is testimony to the strict covid protocols at the club that no other players in the Dunfermline squad contracted the virus. The manager continued:-
“Everybody came through the covid testing last week. It is one of those situations when you look at the English Premiership and at other clubs in Scotland, it is being respectful first and foremost to football players. They are human beings as well, it is something that Dom didn’t want to catch, unfortunately he has.
“We have dealt with it, he has not done anything wrong. We have tried to do everything in the right manner, respecting protocols and continue to do that. I don’t think Dom is the first footballer and I don’t think that he will be the last but we will try and keep it at bay as long as we can.”
As the wintery weather brought Fife and the East of Scotland to a standstill Stevie gave his Dunfermline players Tuesday off. He explained:-
“This morning it was the well being of the players that we were concerned about because we were also meant to have the CAT testing for Covid. That was suspended and will now take place on Thursday morning.
“We were going to be training at the Oriam on Tuesday afternoon because we had predicted that the forecast wasn’t going to be great but unfortunately it was the roads rather than the facility that defeated us.
“We have sat down as a coaching staff for about two or three hours this morning and prepared whether the game is going to go ahead at the weekend or get the right work into the boys in terms of their conditioning. We have to prepare properly, we will train tomorrow, Thursday and Friday at the Oriam and just adapt as we see fit as the week progresses and see if the game goes ahead.”
