Dunfermline manager Stevie Crawford was disappointed in defeat but took positives from his players’ performances, it taking Hearts keeper Craig Gordon to show his international class to keep them out. Stevie said:-
“It was a decent finish from Jamie Walker, he has turned Euan Murray and put it across the keeper like good strikers do. I know Jamie is not a natural striker but he has taken his opportunity well.
“Apart from the disappointment of losing the game, the pleasing thing for us today was that we worked the keeper more than we have in previous weeks.
“I can only ask my players to go that same way when we play Raith Rovers during the week with the same application. I thought our shape was very good today but Craig Gordon was magnificent on the day.”
It all might have been different had Dunfermline managed to score from their early chances that somehow Hearts managed to keep out:-
“In the first couple of minutes Iain wilson did great, it was a good move. He tried a shot it fell to Declan and then we had one cleared off the line. But we didn’t feel sorry for ourselves, Ryan Dow had a great header later in the half as well and how did Craig get it over the bar? It probably shows why he is a Scotland international.
“It is all about asking for more of the same. I thought we were very good in the first half, our shape was good. We probably passed it about a bit better in the first half. Hearts changed their shape at half time again which shows that we are causing them problems and in the end we have come here and competed with the team that is sitting top of the league.”
Is the Fife Derby on Wednesday night the perfect game to come on top of this one?
“I don’t know if there is ever a perfect game, all I would say is that we are looking forward to the game on Wednesday night. Raith Rovers are in a good bit of form. I am happy with the way the boys applied the shape and the way they went about our business today, the disappointing thing is that we came away with nothing.”
Asked about the missing first team regulars - Kyle Turner and Dom Thomas, Stevie replied:-
“That is just something that happened yesterday at training. We will keep that in house but nothing untoward happened there it was just one of those things that we have to put a squad together of 18 to come to games like this.”
