Kyle Turner goal makes a good point

“We know how hard it is coming up to Inverness. I felt that we could have won tonight but we will go down the road with a good point.”

To net Dunfermline’s goal at Inverness was big relief to midfielder Kyle Turner. His manager has termed it “getting the monkey off the back” and for Kyle it was sheer delight to score for the first time since September last year. He told the website:-

“It is long overdue to be fair. I have been saying all season that my aim is to score a few more goals so it is good to chip in with one tonight. It just broke to me on the edge of the box and I put it in the corner with my left foot.”

Kyle (22) who was signed from Stranraer in May 2019, has played in every Dunfermline match this season. He has started nine out of the ten league matches, playing the full ninety minutes in all but three and in all six Betfred Cup matches including all 120 minutes against St Johnstone. For the game in Inverness, Kyle found himself in a slightly different set up in a team without Steven Whittaker, Declan McManus, Ryan Dow and Dom Thomas. Kyle said:-

“It was the manager’s choice obviously. He thought that it was the best team to go come up here and get a win. I thought the boys were very good, apart from giving away a sloppy goal.”

Lewis Mayo was played just in front of the back four and Kyle felt that the freshened up look worked well but he was disappointed at losing the goal:-

“I think that was Lewis’ first time in there, he was good just sitting in and breaking up play. He was just trying to get me, Kerr McInroy and Iain Wilson on to it to feed McCann and O’Hara upfront.

“At the goal we lost we should have stopped the throw in getting into his feet but apart from that it was a great finish. If you gave him another twenty or thirty balls like that I don’t think he could do that again. It was a great finish but I think we could have stopped it in the build up.”

Stevie Crawford had strength on the bench. He had introduced Dow just before the equaliser was conceded and McManus and Thomas followed but the Inverness defence held out despite a few good attempts to penetrate it:-

“We had one off the line when Ryan Dow sent one over. Declan said he flicked it and the hit the boy on the head and came out. We had a couple like that in the second half. Kevin O’Hara had one blocked and Lewis McCann had a shot. He had one in the first half as well when I have no idea how Danny Devine got it over the bar. We had enough chances but it is just the goal that we conceded that was poor.”

Inverness are undefeated at home since December 2019 underlining the well used phrase ‘it’s a hard place to go’ but Dunfermline also had to negotiate the rather imposing Covid-19 protocols which severely changes preparations for an away match such as this. Kyle described the scenario:

“We came up in two buses because of social distancing with only a certain amount on each bus. It is different to what we are used to but we know how hard it is coming up to Inverness. I felt that we could have won tonight but we will go down the road with a good point.”
