King Dom given freedom in Fife

Dom Thomas enjoyed the win over Hearts on Friday night, scoring the opener and setting up the second. The 24 year old who signed for Dunfermline in July after eight games for the Pars while on loan from Kilmarnock between January and March this year, claims that his on loan experiences of the club made his decision to drop down from the Premiership to the Championship compelling. After his side saw off Hearts to increase their unbeaten start to the season to nine matches he told the media:-
“It is a great dressing room and a good club. That is one of the reasons that I came here. I knew with the manager and the coaching staff what I was coming in to and it is just great to be part of a good team that is doing well. It makes everything in the changing room easier when we are putting in results and good performances. It is a good mix of youth and experience.
“When I came here on loan I settled in straight away and when there was a chance to come here in the summer it was a no brainer. I think that has shown in my performances that I am comfortable and the manager has belief in me. He gives me the freedom to go and play.”
Dom revealed that the manager and the coaching staff have instilled in their players that they are a good team and the record this season now speaks for itself. The midfielder continued:-
“If there are any boys doubting themselves they can stand up and be counted now. I think to a man on Friday night we were brilliant and we have been all season. The belief is definitely in the dressing room but for us we just look to the next game which is Arbroath in the cup. We look to go there and get the win.”
The opening goal on 49th minute against Hearts was Dom’s first since February and having so often been credited with assists he was very pleased to hit the net by his own efforts:-
“It is good to chip in with goals as well. Obviously it was my first of the season but to do it against Hearts is special, they are a top team. We want to do it in the big games but overall the three points is the main thing for us. That is what we cherish.”
“Hearts will do well this season but we have just got to look at Dunfermline and we are glad that we got the three points over them. I thought in the first half they were the better team but it showed another side to us that we kept our shape. We defended well and looked to counter.
“In the second half we came out and played a bit more, created a lot of chances and there could maybe have been a few more goals.”
Euan Murray converted a Thomas corner just five minutes later a successful combination for the sixth time this season. Dom added “it is great for me and I am delighted for the big man getting on the end of them.”
Dom dedicated his goal to a close friend from Cambuslang’s dad who is currently in Hairmyres Hospital. Dom said that he has always followed his football career:-
“One of my good mates dad’s, Titch Ward is in hospital and struggling and hopefully the big man keeps up the fight and comes out the other end. I have known Titch all my life really, he has been a close friend and always watches my games so it was great to get that win and a goal - that is for him.”
