Dom in no penalty decision deems Ref

Dunfermline have scored from all three penalty kicks they have been awarded this season but Dom Thomas believes that they should have had the chance of making that four in the match against Ayr United on Saturday. An impressive move involving five of his team mates set up the former Killie player with a great opportunity thirteen minutes from half time. Dom went down under a challenge from Joe Chalmers, a former team mate at Motherwell. He said:-
“I believe that it was a penalty but I am always going to say that. I do think it was in the box. I have not seen it back - my big pal Joe bringing me down it would have been extra special getting a penalty off him.
“There was a mark in the ground where I felt his studs were and honestly I did think I was in the box. I have not seen it back so I can’t really comment.”
Dom was on loan to Dunfermline towards of last season and made his move from Kilmarnock permanent in July this year. He continued:-
“We aim to win every game that we play, I thought that we did well, played well but just never got that goal that we have scored in other weeks. Overall coming down here to Somerset and getting another point, a clean sheet and be seven unbeaten, it has been a good start for us.
“Ayr are a good team, they have good players but I think the draw is maybe a fair result. We edged it with chances and crosses into the box but it is a point away from home and it’s one we will take.”
The Pars sequence of six successive wins was halted by Mark Kerr’s Ayr and Dom suggested the reasons:-
“We just never had that clinical edge, the boys gave everything but some days it just doesn’t go for you. It was one of those days. We kept our shape well and defended well. That gives us the platform for attacking players to go and create stuff. Albeit we didn’t create a goal today but it was a very good point.
“We are sitting second in the table so it has been a great start for us. The boys have given everything in pre season and when times have been tough due to covid situation but credit to all the players and manager for where we are sitting just now. We will look to kick on and build on what we have done.”
The 0-0 draw is a reminder that this Championship is competitive:-
“Every game is hard. You look at the fixtures going away to places that are hard to go. Teams will come and try and make it stuffy at home. We have just come up with game plans that will work. Today we had a good game plan and I felt that it did work without a goal to see us over.
“We will go again and look forward to playing Hearts now next in the league. They are one of the top teams in the league and we will be prepared for that. First we have Clyde in the cup, we have been doing well in the cup and we will be looking to finish that off in style.”
