Pars sign on loan Ranger

Dunfermline Athletic are delighted to agree a season long loan for 20 year old centre back and current U21 international squad member.

Twenty year old centre back Lewis Mayo has joined Dunfermline on a season long loan. Lewis who is from Lenzie, has been with Rangers from the age of seven as part of the soccer school and has worked his way up through the Rangers Academy. Billy Kirkwood was one of his most influential coaches at Rangers but since June he has been training with the first team.

Although he has yet to make a senior appearance for Rangers his talents have been recognised by the national side where he has made 13 appearances as a youth international across three different age bands.

Lewis Mayo featured and scored for Rangers in a 5-0 pre-season win over Oxford United at Ibrox last summer and went on to play in three Challenge Cup games for Rangers Colts as they made it to the competition’s semi-final stage, captaining the side for a 2-0 quarter-final win over Wrexham.

He went out on loan to Partick Thistle earlier this year, unbeaten in three games he actually played in the last league match before lockdown against Dunfermline.

Lewis signed a two year extension to his contract at Rangers at the end of last month to keep him at Ibrox until 2023. The Gers boss, Steven Gerrard said: "We love Mayo. His attitude has been fantastic and he has a really good chance.

“But I think he needs game time rather than to be number four centre-back. We will keep him in until we get the right one in and then we will look to Lewis out to get him 30 games for his development."

Lewis was a Scotland sub in the U21s qualifier against Lithuania in Vilnius earlier this month and Scot Gemmill has named him in his squad for next month`s UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifiers against the Czech Republic on Friday 9 October at Tynecastle Park and away to San Marino on Tuesday 13 October.
