Good to be back - Aaron Comrie

Sunday, 20th Sep 2020

Stevie Crawford:- “ I think Aaron was one of the successes of last season.”

Twenty three year old full back Aaron Comrie played in 34 of Dunfermline’s 35 matches last season and after a six month break away due to the pandemic, and even talking through a face covering, it was clear just how good he felt to be back on a football pitch. Speaking after playing the second 45 minutes of the Pars closed doors friendly against Stenhousemuir at Ochilview Park on Saturday, Aaron told the website:-

“It is good to be back. Obviously it has been such a long time now but the important thing today was to get minutes into the legs and giving everyone a run out. We were trying to win the game but that was really on the back burner.

“We are not used to having so long off and it dragged in. It is so good to be back and it will maybe take a wee bit longer to get back to fitness but it definitely good to be back in amongst the boys and working hard.”

Aaron who was signed in May last year from St Johnstone spent lockdown at home in Glenrothes and tried his best to be ready for the resumption of football whenever that was going to be:-

“At the start I was going out running because you didn’t know how long it was going to last. I was trying to keep myself fit but it was starting to get difficult to motivate yourself. We had programs to make sure that we were doing the right things while just trying to keep ourselves ticking over. Apart from that it was pretty quiet.”

In June it was confirmed that Aaron had secured a year’s extension to his contract at Dunfermline as a consequence of making so many appearances last season, manager Stevie Crawford explaining at the time:-

“Aaron had a trigger in his contract whereby he had reached the point where he had played the number of games to give him a further year’s extension. I think Aaron was one of the successes of last season.”

When pre season training got underway at the Indodrill Stadium base Aaron and his team mates felt they benefitted from their lockdown workouts:-

“We felt the better of it but it still felt as if we had that time off. Today you can sense the lack of match sharpness but as the games come thick and fast it will be good to get that match fitness back and see the boys progressing.

“That was our first eleven v eleven match since March and it was so important just to give everyone a run out.”
