Iain Wilson First Interview

IW:- “I am delighted to sign for Dunfermline, it is obviously a big club in Scotland so it was a no brainer.

Iain Wilson returned to East End Park this week to sign a two year contract at Dunfermline Athletic. His last visit on 7th March earned a point for Queen of the South where he has been on loan since January. Having been released by Kilmarnock, the 21 year old midfielder was pleased to have been offered a deal at Dunfermline. He told this website:

“I am delighted to sign for Dunfermline, it is obviously a big club in Scotland so it was a no brainer. I received a phone call from the manager asking if I would like to come up and meet him. Greg Kiltie and Dom Thomas spoke highly of the club and after I met the manager on Monday I was just keen to sign.”

Of the players currently at Dunfermline, Iain revealed knowledge of a couple of former acquaintances:-

“I know Kevin O’Hara and Cammy Gill, I played with them at the Scotland Under 19s. Scot Gemmill was the coach from under 17s through to under 21s. He moved up age groups as I moved up and he was always really good for me, I owe him a lot and it was good to work under him.”

Iain explained that he had progressed right up from the under 10s at Kilmarnock:-

“I had Alan Robertson as Head of Youth Academy and then Paul McDonald. Lee McCulloch was also brilliant for me. I made my debut for Killie at the age of 17 at Aberdeen when I came on as a sub. I enjoyed the first team experience in the Premier League and playing for the club that I had come through at.”

He would make 51 appearances for Killie and another 26 while at Queen of the South in the early parts of both 2019 and 2020.

“I played quite a bit when I was younger. The last couple of seasons have not gone the way that I would have liked but that is how it goes.”

Stevie Crawford has said that he intends a central midfielder role for his latest signing but fancies developing his attacking qualities and physical strength too. Iain was pleased that next time he plays at East End Park it will be for the home team, he continued:-

“Wherever I have played it has been as a defensive midfielder but hopefully I can maybe get forward a bit more. As a Queens player you always found this a hard place to come and it is one of the better stadiums in the league. It is a big club and you always know that you are going to be up against it when you come here.”
