Welcome to the Hotel Casablanca
Wednesday, 17th Jan 2001Some dance to remember, some dance to forget!
The fans hotel for the overnight stay in Casablanca was booked over the internet and a good price was agreed a month in advance. In a quiet street just off the main beach promenade, the Hotel Club D’Anfa gave out favourable first impressions. The Dunfermline guests were all to have the luxury of single rooms which actually turned out to be twins.
The hotel manager booked everyone in with great efficiency and even agreed for yours truly to use the internet connection from the computers in the hotel’s own office. The lift carried notices that there was a sauna on the second floor. It had to be noted that seemed a strange feature for such a warm country.
Most of the party managed to leave the bar long enough to have a fine dinner before heading off for the main event.
On returning to the hotel the celebrations started and many beers were opened. Time flew and it was not long before it was noted that there was a night club in the basement.
Five of the surviving party made it to the Night Club. There was a band with excellent percussionist bongos and violins. The music was superb and the dance floor heaved with around 120 women. The Pars folk were asked to sit down in the front row on the edge of the dance floor by five large bouncers. A decision was made not to purchase any beers here since the beer was more than four times the price of the bar above’s beer.
Behind the Pars party the tables were full of maybe 60 local businessmen who could make little of the Scottish parlance which by that hour consisted exclusively of four words – “We are the Pars, we are the Pars.” This club seemed to double as reception in the late hour with keys being available from behind the bar as well as drink.
The ladies on the dance floor danced beautiful solo traditional dances but a decision was made to call it a night and leave the locals to their own peace.
All the travelling support were fit and well for a fortifying breakfast before leaving for Agadir. The Hotel Club D’Anfa looks forward to a profitable season.
