Scott Thomson post Celtic
Saturday, 9th Feb 2002Captain Scott Thomson was disappointed with the result but thought there had been some good play from Dunfermline interspersed with some punishment:-
"We got caught in midfield a couple of times and seemed to get punished for every mistake we made."
The penalty save from Henrik Larsson boosted the Pars and the skipper tried to steady his ship after that:-
"Over the next ten minutes or so I tried to settle the boys down but the first one went in and then after that the flood gates opened. It was just non-stop attacking; we can`t let them play but unfortunately that is what we did in the first half especially."
The words with the absent Youssef Rossi after the second goal went in were described as just a captain`s telling:-
"I just thought that he could have helped me a bit more but it was maybe just one of those things being the captain I was just trying to get everyone riled up. I just had words with him, he disagreed and there was a wee confrontation but that is the end of that.
"After the third and fourth went in we changed the personnel and it was just a pride thing after that. We didn`t want to be getting beat eight or nine so I thought the boys did well in the second half and they didn`t get as many chances as they were getting in the first half.
"We just did not perform in the first half. They were bad goals to lose; although Celtic were playing well we never really got started. In the first 15 to 20 minutes they got on top and at places like this the fans get behind you. They got a lift and after that the first half was a shambles.
"We thought we could come and do well after losing at Ayr but playing well against Hearts except for the late goal. We thought that we could come here and give a good account of ourselves but unfortunately that didn`t happen.
"I didn`t think that we played that badly in the first half even though we were letting in goals. We still had good possession; I think at one nil we kept the ball for about five minutes, got into the box and got a couple of shots.
"But we can`t afford to give Henrik Larsson, John Hartson and people like that chances because they will take them."
Turning to the next task and points available Scott Thomson sees no reason why Dundee cannot be beaten at Dens Park:-
"In the last nine or ten SPL games the Old Firm are the only ones who have beat us. Outside the Old Firm any team can go and beat anybody. Motherwell beat Hibs 4-0 so we will be looking to go there and try and pick up the three points."
