Stevie hopes striker will stay
Saturday, 13th Jun 2020“He improved over the season and he is one that I would hopefully see starting the season with us.”
Good players attract attention and none more so than Kevin Nisbet and Stevie Crawford reflected on how the success of the club’s signing strategy helped bring this about:-
“It was the model that we put together. The remit in putting a squad together last summer was to try and bring on players that were young with potential and through game experience would get better. To target players who maybe feel that they have got a point to prove. Kevin did that when he went to Raith Rovers.”
Kevin scored 34 goals in 46 appearances at the Rovers having joined them after being released by Partick Thistle. The 23 year old then scored 23 goals in his 32 matches for Dunfermline last season but that did not go unnoticed throughout Scottish football. Stevie continued:-
“There were a couple of teams interested in him in January but Chairman Ross McArthur decided that it wasn’t the right offer and we managed to keep hold of Kevin. Kevin then got the head down and got on with it before he unfortunately got injured and missed the last three games of the season.”
Stevie pointed out that Kevin is contracted to Dunfermline and he would love to see it remain that way.
“If a club puts in an offer it shouldn’t be anything to do with speculation in the media. At the end of the day if a club gets in contact with Ross and they have genuine interest then until they can reach a figure that Dunfermline are happy with, Kevin will remain a Dunfermline player. He improved over the season and he is one that I would hopefully see starting the season with us.”
