Tuesday, 10th Dec 201910/12/19: SC - “What I am able to pass on to any of the players here is when you are happy at a club it is dangerous to try and move on too quickly.
Speculation about the interest of other clubs in Dunfermline players is welcome claims manager Stevie Crawford:-
“When I spoke to players in the summer, anybody that I have brought to the club, or we have brought to the club, part of the sale to them about coming to Dunfermline is that it is a great club. You then have to be true to your word on them.
“We are talking about speculation, because I have not had a conversation with the Chairman. What happens very quickly and I have been fortunate to have worked at Falkirk and Hearts where I have worked with younger players, even at MK Dons we sold a couple. I have proven history of being involved at clubs where when the right offer comes in, you can’t stand in a player’s way.
“Now I don’t want to upset any Dunfermline supporters, we want to keep our best players but you have to see the bigger picture. If we can manage to get a player in or players in that we can potentially sell on and they go to a higher level, it is great for the club because you will attract other players who will want to come and play for us.
“Albeit I am not chasing anybody out, we want to keep our best players because I want us to be competitive in this league. I have said that from day one but there comes a point where you have to be true to your word as well and if that means that somebody comes in with a bid, we have to hold up our hands and say right it is time for somebody to move on then we will do it. As I say we are purely talking in speculation not firm facts.”
Drawing on his own personal experience as a player that saw him move from Raith Rovers to Millwall, Hibs then Dunfermline before going off to Plymouth, Dundee United and Aberdeen before returning to Dunfermline Stevie continued:-
“What I am able to pass on to any of the players here is when you are happy at a club it is dangerous to try and move on too quickly. I see a lot of boys who are happy and feeling that they are developing and enjoying their football at the moment.
“The advice I would give any player, and any player that I have ever worked with would tell you the same, is commit yourself to the club you are at and then if something happens from that and you end up moving on or it is up to somebody else to say that it is not happening, that is the reality of football.
“The one thing that I don’t want is people taking their focus away from what is happening on a Saturday. I have not seen any traces of that. Any attention for your club is good attention and it is great that people are now talking about us as a positive.”
That attention is no doubt generated with a run of five successive home wins and by getting results at places like Ayr United, Stevie warned:-
“It doesn’t give you a divine right to win a game of football. At this stage we need to keep our feet on the ground and continue to want to get better.”
“What has happened now is there is a belief from within that we have managed to win a game in a different manner with different tactics. I think the Celtic one helped us earlier in the season, albeit we lost.
“We went there and played a totally different way. Rightly so against the Scottish champions. It has shown that the players are adaptable. There is still a lack of game time in some of them, in terms of experience at this level but everyday is a learning day. That is the pleasing thing because to react in the way we did against Partick Thistle shows that it means a lot to the players that they want to be at this club.”
