Injury to Dunfermline Athletic keeper Ryan Scully looks likely to exclude him from the next two home matches against his former clubs, Partick Thistle and Morton, as well as the intervening league game away to Ayr United. The 27 year old keeper was concussed just 14 minutes into Saturday’s William Hill Scottish Cup tie at Stranraer when diving at the feet of the home side’s Jordan Allan.
Manager Stevie Crawford revealed today that Ryan was still a little groggy when they picked him up from the hospital after the game on Saturday.
”He can`t remember anything before the incident happened. He was groggy and still a bit under the weather on Monday. I haven`t spoken to him myself yet, but Westie (Dave Westwood) says he is in a better place today.
”With the head knock protocol the way it is, Kevin (Bain) is saying that it could be a matter of a few weeks or it could possibly extend to a month or so. That is something we will just have to monitor on a daily basis at the moment. He certainly won`t be available for this weekend, unfortunately.”
Ryan lost his place in the team to Cammy Gill for seven games in September and October but Stranraer was his fourth game back before it was 21 year old who replaced Ryan on Saturday. The manager expressed his faith in the keeper who has come through the youth system at Dunfermlihe:-
”We have Cammy to call upon, and we have Ben Swinton a young goalkeeper. It is what it is, and opportunities open up in life for people. Cammy came in earlier on in the season when Ryan had lost a little bit of form, and he grabbed his opportunity.
”There came a point when we felt it was right to put Ryan back in, but unfortunately after taking such a sore one last week Cammy is now going to be the one to take the number one jersey again.
”It is something you just cannot take a chance with now, not just in football but in sport in general. We need to go through all the right protocol when it comes to a head knock. Obviously we would like Ryan back sooner rather than later, but never at the detriment of the player’s health.”
