Coaching the coaches
Wednesday, 13th Nov 201913/11/19: SC - “Knowledge that they’ve gained in the last couple of years they shared with the group. It can only give you a helping hand in things you’re going to deal with in the future.”
Despite not having a match to prepare for this weekend, Stevie Crawford has had a busy few days taking in an CPD event, the Raith Rovers Hall of Fame and the Reserve League match at Kilmarnock. He reported:-
“I was away at a CPD event on Sunday at Heriot-Watt University with Jason (Dair). It was interesting hearing Craig Levein, Jack Ross and Billy Stark talking about managerial situations they’ve been in. Sods’s Law, two of the guys there are out of a job while it happens.
“It was interesting to hear some of the troubles they’ve come across and some of the things they’ve had to deal with in their management careers. It was really insightful.

“On Monday we did a recovery session and then I ‘flew’ down to Kilmarnock. It’s been a busy couple of days because Jason was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Raith Rovers on Monday night.
“I was fortunate enough to be inducted three years ago. It’s a very well organised evening and Bill Leckie hosts it. They get a couple of guest speakers and this year it was Jan Molby and Tony Adams.
“Both played at the top, top level, but they were totally different. Just listening to Tony, his honesty and the demons he’s had to come face to face with just opens your eyes, because being part of a management team now and in charge of a squad of boys you never know what’s going on in people’s minds. So, it was interesting on that side.
“Then there were Jan Molby’s stories about Liverpool and the football side. It was a good night.”
Continuous Professional Development (CPD) events are organised by the Scottish Football Association (see link below) and Stevie confirmed that they are must attend events:-
“You’ve got to get 15 hours every three years and it’s something they’re clamping down on. So, it’s just about making sure that you get the hours - and trying to pick ones you feel are going to benefit you as well.

“I’ve worked under Craig and alongside Craig and Jack was in at Hearts when I was there. It was great, in terms of the knowledge that they’ve gained in the last couple of years that they shared with the group. It can only give you a helping hand in things you’re going to deal with in the future.”
Asked about the possible next job for Jack Ross, Stevie was willing to say:-
“I know Jack from my time at Hearts and seeing at the CPD event how he has progressed he will get another job somewhere. I’m not going to put my name to what job that will be but he’s grown during his stint down at Sunderland and I wish him all the best.”

After playing two matches that season for Hamilton in the SPL, Jack Ross signed for Dunfermline in October 2010 until the end of the 2010–11 season. He sustained a knee injury in training which led to his eventual retirement from football without having played a game for the Pars.
