Preview Stranraer
Saturday, 23rd Nov 2019William Hill Scottish Cup Third Round: Saturday 23rd November 2019 (away) v Stranraer, 3.00pm kick off at Stair Park, DG9 8BS
In the Scottish Cup Dunfermline have been drawn against Stranraer five times now, always away. This time the Fifers will face a Stranraer team sitting bottom of League One and their progress in the cup would be described as a bit of an upset.
Stevie Crawford and his side have consistently said over the last week that they will prepare properly and treat their opponents with respect but being able to put aside the stress of the league campaign, Stranraer have nothing to lose as most looking in, do not expected them to beat their Championship opponents.
Scottish Cup ties between the clubs have not all turned out in the Pars favour. In January 1954 a 4-1 victory was secured with two goals each from McSevenie and Candlish.
In February 1961 en route to lifting the Scottish Cup for the first time ever, the Fifers won 3-1 courtesy of goals from Harry Melrose, Charlie Dickson and Tommy MacDonald.
In January 1979 when after being held to a 1-1 draw at Stair Park, a Jimmy Mullin goal was the winner at home.
The most recent was in November 2014 when Jim Jefferies’ side drew 2-2 before losing the replay in his last match as gaffer at East End by three goals to one on 9th December.
The Galloway side have recorded just eight wins ever in the 50 league and cup games between the sides but four of these were in the last seven visits to Stair Park.

Stranraer 4 Dunfermline 1
With the Pars having won the league three weeks prior to this match Stranraer went into the match with the greater incentive. Fourth place was the best Stranraer they could achieve but this win and then a win over Cowdenbeath saw them into the play offs where the6 knocked out Livingston but lost the final v Ayr United on penalties.
The Champions took the lead in 35 minutes when the Blues defending of a corner from the right was far from impressive. Michael Moffat was able to direct the ball towards goal only for Brad McKAY to tap home the opener. 0-1
The second half started badly for the Pars losing a soft goal in just the fourth minute. The defence looked sluggish as Ryan Thomson met the ball in front of goal and he teed up McGUIGAN who turned the ball in at the right post. 1-1
When play switched to the other end Scott Robinson conceded the corner on the left and Willie Gibson`s delivery was met by Craig MALCOLM 2-1.
Midway through the second half, Steven Bell gathered and cut the ball back to the unmarked Andy STIRLING whose shot swerved away from David Hutton to find the net just inside the right post. 3-1
Four minutes from full time Paul Cairney pumped the 30 yard free kick into the box where MALCOLM latched on to net the chance off the left post. 4-1
The match was well and truly over as a contest and the Pars impressive unbeaten away league record - unbeaten in their last 14 league matches on the road - was gone.
