Aaron warns Wasps can sting
Friday, 8th Nov 2019“They can play a wee bit and are a threat going forward as well.”
When Aaron Comrie made the move from St Johnstone to Dunfermline in the summer it was in the hope of playing regular football. The 22 year old right back who only made 16 appearances for St Johnstone over three seasons has started every game for the Pars this season but he still maintains that he is fighting hard to keep his place.
“The last couple of years I have sat in stands, sat on the bench - it is mentally tough so I don’t want that to happen again. That is why I am trying so hard to keep my jersey.”
Two loan spells at Montrose and Peterhead were in the latter half of seasons so he has never completed a full season playing. “That has got to be my aim” added Aaron.
“You don’t know if you are playing every week but it is a nice challenge knowing that you have the chance and if you do well you can keep the jersey.
“I never played much at Saints last season and the season before was when I made most of my appearances. It is good that I am playing for Dunfermline and long it that continue.
“I came here to play games. I knew that it was a big club so I am thoroughly enjoying it so far. The manager has been brilliant with me and it is good that form has picked up. It is the first time that I have played in the Championship and it makes it easier when you are winning games and trying to push up the table.”
Keeping up the momentum is the objective of the trip to the Indodrill Stadium on Saturday, Aaron continued:-
“We want to beat Alloa and try and keep this run going. Our form in the last six or seven has been good and we want to pick up maximum points on Saturday but is not going to be easy.
“We have already played them twice and not beat them yet. We are on a good run of form and we will be looking to go there expecting a tough game and go to try and win it.
“They have always been a good footballing team and they have showed that twice when they have played us at East End. They can play a wee bit and are a threat going forward as well.”
After two wins in their last two league matches the Pars can finally start looking up the table with eyes firmly on trying to catch the teams above them:-
“We are only a point off Arbroath so to catch them has to be our aim. We have to push for a play off spot, get there as soon as early possible and try and maintain that.”
As an integral part of the defence Aaron was delighted with shut outs in the last two matches:-
“We have not had many this season so that was pleasing for the back four and Ryan Scully especially. We always know that if we can keep clean sheets we have got a good chance of winning games because of the boys that we have upfront. That has been the aim and it has been good in the last couple of games to be able to do that.”
Playing in a youthful team and having a player like a Ryan Dow operating in front of him, Aaron is confident that the team will only improve as the season progresses:-
“It is well known that it is a young squad. Boys will take dips in form but we will all stick together as a group and try and overcome that. It is youthful but the longer the season goes boys will start finding their form and relish the challenge of playing week in week out.
“Ryan Dow makes my life so much easier. I just try and get the ball and give it to him as early as possible. He shows his quality and everybody knows how good a player he is. He puts a shift in defensively as well so makes my life so much easier.”
And will Aaron be helping out on the goal scoring tasks, after opening his account in just his second competitive match for Dunfermline the full back quipped:-
“I have probably only got one a season in me, hopefully I can get more but I won’t hold my breath.”
