Kyle seeking change of luck
Monday, 30th Sep 2019“We are just not getting the ball dropping for us. The one in the second half dropped to me on the edge of the box and you have to hit it.
Kyle Turner’s fifth goal of the season made him the Pars leading goal scorer in the league but he was grateful to Kevin Nisbet for his assist. Kyle described his goal which some thought took a deflection and Alloa Athletic Manager Peter Grant has reached him with the aid of a handball:-
“I flicked in to Nissy, I don’t know what he saw hand ball wise. He held it up and then he laid it off to me. When I hit it I was falling over, I was off balance and just reversed it and it went in. I think the keeper thought that was going to go his side. He took a step and it went to the other side, I am just delighted that it went in at that point.
“I wasn’t sure if it took a deflection. I just hit it and it went in, when I turned and looked up it was in the net. The boys in the changing room said that it didn’t take a deflection, I don’t know I would have to see it back again.”
After several first half chances the Pars allowed their opponents to take the lead just five minutes into the second half through a wonder strike from a player who was now even meant to be playing!
Alloa lost a player in the warm up for the second week running. Liam Dick had to drop out, Jon Robertson switched to left back and Adam Brown came in at the last minute. The 24 year old’s first goal for the club he joined in July 2018 from Airdrieonians was a stunner so Kyle’s equaliser just seven minutes later was a welcome relief especially after the number of first half chances that failed to culminate with a goal. Kyle continued:-
“It was frustrating. The first twenty minutes of the first half we had a few chances. I had one from the edge of the box, Kiltie got a flick on it but he actually flicked it too good and it goes right into the keeper’s hands. In the second half after we scored, Nissy hit the bar and there was one hit of the line as well.”
Perhaps it could be said that Dunfermline need to be more clinical in front of goal but Kyle, who scored eight goals for Stranraer last season, believes that his team needs a bit of a break as well:-
“We are just not getting the ball dropping for us. The one in the second half dropped to me on the edge of the box and you have to hit it. It is just hitting somebody where maybe a deflection would take it in. Last week we got a wee bit of luck but this week we never got any.”
Alloa Athletic are becoming a bit of a bogey side for Dunfermline who have not won any of the last five times that they have hosted the Wasps but Kyle disagreed that they were possibly more difficult to play against than other teams in the Championship:-
“I wouldn’t say so. We were disappointed to get the draw because after we scored it was all us. Apart from their goal I don’t think Alloa had another shot on goal that I can remember. It is a disappointed dressing room but we know it’s another point gained and maybe next week we can go to Cappielow and get a win.”
On the plus side Kyle shared his manager’s view that his partnership with the on loan Hearts midfielder Harry Cochrane developed as the game went on:-
“It was good. From what I have seen in training I know how good players is. He is comfortable on the ball, so I knew that he would be fine in there. He would just get on the ball, play and try and get us the win.”
