Preview Alloa Athletic
Saturday, 7th Sep 2019Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup, Saturday 7th September v Alloa Athletic, 3.00pm kick off at East End Park.
For the second season running Dunfermline Athletic will host Alloa Athletic in the Challenge Cup. This year it is called the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup, last year it was the Irn Bru Cup but no matter what it’s called it’s clear that whether it’s to take the biscuit or let the fizz out, the East End Park club will be out for revenge this Saturday.
Dunfermline have lost only won of their last seventeen matches against Alloa Athletic but last October’s 4-2 win on penalties was sufficient to knock the Pars out of the Irn Bru Cup. For both Athletics this third round tie is their first involvement in this season’s Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup.
The teams have met 77 times and the Fifers have the advantage with 35 wins to Alloa’s 28. 24 matches have been drawn. In cup competitions the teams have met 26 times and the Pars are ahead 14-6 in those with six having been drawn.

Alloa won 5-4 on penalties
The visitors were to go ahead in the eighth minute as a result of two unfortunate touches. Firstly a stray pass from Andy Ryan allowed Alloa to break down the left forcing a throw in 18 yards out and when Louis Longridge cleverly stole the ball away from the throw in, Alloa gathered and picked out Alan TROUTEN in front of goal. His shot seemed to deflect off Lee Ashcroft giving Lee Robinson no chance of keeping it out. 0-1
The Pars shooting eventually paid off in 28 minutes, Louis LONGRIDGE firing a good attempt in from 25 yards that gave keeper Neil Parry little chance. 1-1
The second half started really well for the Pars with Glad All Over striking up within two minutes. El Bakhtaoui slipped a great ball through for L Longridge to run on to and then strike a shot that came back off the left upright and in the scramble to net the rebound Alloa conceded a penalty. Louis LONGRIDGE made no mistake from the spot kick to put the Pars 2-1 up.
The away team found an equaliser on 70 minutes. It was Dario Zanatta who made the goal getting in a deadly cross from the left that TROUTEN swept home from close in. 2-2. The match ended all square and would be decided on penalties.
