No excuses surface
Thursday, 8th Aug 201908/08/19: SC - ”It’s not something that I’ll ever use as an excuse.”
Stevie Crawford has had his side train on AstroTurf this week in readiness for their first away match of the season. Queen of the South are one of two clubs in the Championship where the ’grass’ is artificial. The Pars boss said :-
”We’ve had a decent working week. We were down at Dalgety Bay on Wednesday on the AstroTurf down there and will probably go back there on Friday, to give us that preparation in terms of going down to Palmerston and playing on a different surface. We felt that was important.”
”Not playing on grass; the ball travels differently, bounces differently and can run away from you quickly! There are aspects that you need to overcome.
”It’s not something that I’ll ever use as an excuse. We know what we are up against and Queens aren’t the only team in the Championship with AstroTurf. We need to adapt to that and we’ll focus positively on what we can do.
”I understand that sometimes in Scotland the finances play a big part in decisions. If it helps clubs to go down that route, then so be it. I’m more concerned about what we do at Dunfermline. Albeit if the chairman sits down and has a conversation with me about putting AstroTurf down, then we might have different views on the matter!”
