Speaking after the 4-0 win over East Kilbride, Stevie Crawford and his management team were delighted with the application of his team.
”We had a very good result against Albion Rovers here, earlier in the tournament and we were delighted with the cutting edge we had to our performance in the first half today. I am really happy to progress in the tournament.”
Asked if he was disappointed that his team did not score more than four goals, SC replied:-
”I am not going to be critical of the boys for that. They have created chances today and you are not going to score from every chance. The pleasing thing is that we scored four really good goals and possibly could have had more.
”Last week the first half was disappointing on a hot hot day, on a different surface and I think we saw today a pitch in an excellent condition for the amount of rain that has fallen - Kevin and Willie have got the pitch in great nick.
”Some of the combination play and movement to create chances was excellent. It is pleasing to win the group but equally important was, as we said at the start, that we were hoping to progress in the competition so it was an added bonus that we have managed to do that by winning the group.
”I have just said to the boys, credit to them after that wee setback against Edinburgh City, if they perform like that today. Let`s not get carried away Dundee will be a totally different game but an exciting one, kicking off the Championship on a Friday night.
”I am going to go up and watch Dundee tomorrow playing against Inverness and see if I can see anything to help us in our week’s training.”
The manager explained how Josh Coley was after being forced off in the closing minutes leaving his side with just ten players on the park:-
”He had cramped up and there was just a little bit of concern that with him cramping up and keeping on the keeping that he could do a little but more damage to himself. You could see how keen he was, two or three times we tried to peel him off. He was keen to get on the ball again and it was a pleasing problem that you have got boys, even when it is hurting that they still want go that extra bit for you.”
Asked what his target was for the coming season, the Dunfermline gaffer replied:-
”I am not going to set a target. The one thing I will say, if we keep applying ourselves like that then it will take care of itself. We will not get carried away. We had watched East Kilbride and they have been excellent in the tournament, they are really well organised and I think that they will go on and do well again this season. They were a credit to themselves the way they went out and performed for the ninety minutes.”
