Kevin Nisbet opens with a par three
Friday, 19th Jul 2019”The gaffer is creating something very good here and it is a very good place to be at the minute.
For a striker who scored 34 goals last season, it surprised most when Kevin Nisbet confessed that his three goals in the space of 26 first half minutes of Dunfermline’s Betfred Cup match against Albion Rovers on Wednesday night, gave him his first career hat trick.
Kevin told the media:-
”As a striker you always want to get off the mark as soon as possible. It didn`t happen in the St Mirren game but happily did against Albion Rovers. That is the first hat trick of my career.
”I tried hard last year but just couldn`t get a hat trick. It is nice to get off to a hat trick.”
Last season was frustrating for the striker who joined the Pars from Raith Rovers in June given on seven occasions he was sitting on two and in search of that elusive third:-
”I just couldn`t get the hat trick. It was bouncing off the post and all that. I`m just happy to get it.
”It was a great performance from the lads. We started very well Kyle’s goal settled us into the game. We kept our discipline and a clean sheet was massive for us going into Saturday.”
Kevin’s goals in 19th, 25th and 45th minutes helped Dunfermline to a very comfortable 5-0 half time lead. The first half had seen total dominance by the Fifers and some sparkling play that is generating confidence both on and off the park for the Championship season ahead. Kevin continued:-
”We have a tight squad this year, the gaffer is creating something very good here and it is a very good place to be at the minute.
”Usually it takes a few weeks for boys to gel but after the Hibs game we thought that this could be a good season. We are happy that we have gelled so well.
”I think it is down to boys getting on with each other off the park. If you get on off the park then on the park it is a lot easier.
”As long I am between the sticks, then I know that if there is a ball coming in I have a chance of scoring. More again on Saturday hopefully.”
