“A good test” against a team that has been strengthened following making the play offs last year, was Stevie Crawford’s assessment of his away day to Forfar. He told the website:-

“They have signed some very good football players especially for this level so I’m sure that they will be up there pushing for promotion again this season.

“From our own point of view I am delighted that we have come up and scored a really good goal, a well worked move and a great finish. We have come away unscathed without anybody picking up injuries which is pleasing.”

Dunfermline were able to field two entirely different elevens in each half of this friendly which demonstrated a strength in depth. SC was pleased with the way they all competed:-

“It is not to get carried away but they are up against boys who have played at a right good level in Scottish football with a number of games under their belt. It wasn`t as if everything was brilliant on the day but we competed and got out of it conditioning wise what we wanted from them.

”There were a few things that weren`t so good but equally there were a lot of positives to take out of the game and pleasing when we are able to mix up the teams and give them both 45 minutes. It gave some of the younger ones some game experience.”

Following Tom Beadling failing to score from a first half penalty, it was Kyle Turner who scored the only goal of the game to secure a victory. Stevie continued:-

”Kyle has played over a hundred games at Stranraer in League One and he is an exciting prospect in wanting to play the game going forward. He will get on the half turn, he always looks to play a forward pass and have a shot at goal.

”He is an exciting prospect, if we can help add to his game in terms of sometimes not forcing passes and keeping possession of the ball that could help his game defensively.

”He is a pleasure to work with because he definitely has the attitude and application to get better.”

Asked about the next friendly match on Tuesday night at the C&G Systems Stadium, Dumbarton, Stevie said:-

”We will have to see how we are tomorrow, to see if there are any bumps and bruises overnight. It might be that we give boys sixty minutes and possibly others thirty. I will speak to Gary (McCall) on these kind of things and see what he recommends in terms of who maybe needs a little more conditioning.

”At Dumbarton we will still be trying to get match fitness out of it. Looking forward to the Hibs game on Saturday, it will give us a gauge on where we are going to be for the season ahead.”
