Comrie ready for Championship challenge

Aaron Comrie is looking forward to playing in the Championship with the Pars

“It is the one league that I have not played in, I know that it going to be tough, there are certainly no easy games and I know at times we are going to have to roll our sleeves up and dig in. I think I can do both sides.

“I defend first and foremost but I will try to get up the pitch and try to contribute as well. I bring energy and as well as defending I like to get forward as much as possible. I like that battle as well, you get that a lot in this league.”

Home for Aaron is in Glenrothes so the move to Dunfermline is ideal for the 22 year old who describes pre season as having been really tough.

“Good though, you need to put the work in because it sets you up well for the season. If you get a good pre season in then you can start the season flying.

“The boys have a few moans about it just now but it is certainly needed. It has probably been my toughest pre season. You have got to enjoy it as well. The balls have been out and we have been working on how we want to play.”

Paul Paton was a team mate at St Johnstone, he went to school with Joe Thomson and I played with Kevin Nisbet years ago but he claims that all the boys have been really welcoming:-

“I feel settled already, I couldn’t ask for a better welcome. There are a lot of new faces so that makes it easier.

“It is exciting to see the other boys coming in. They are a good group, there is a lot of quality in the squad. It is nice to see how everyone plays, get used to it and create partnerships all around the pitch. I think that is important as well.”

A former pupil at Glenrothes High School, Aaron is predominately a right back. He came through the Celtic youth system spending eight years with them before joining St Johnstone in the summer of 2015. While on loan to Montrose he made 21 appearances in what was his first taste of men’s football.

The following season he was on loan to Peterhead from January to June 2017 and made 16 appearances for the Blue Toon. On returning to St Johnstone and breaking into the first team a nasty hamstring injury curtailed his progress. He made sixteen first team appearances for St Johnstone but in 2018-2019 the bulk of his appearances were at reserve team level.
