Target man aims to become complete package

New player hopes his new manager’s experience can improve his game

Kevin Nisbet knocked in 34 goals last season for Raith Rovers to be the leading scorer in League One but he is clear that his ambitions to become an even more successful striker are what has brought him to Dunfermline. The Pars manager’s experience in the position and his success both at club and country level attracted the twenty two year old. He confessed that the more he spoke with Stevie Crawford the more he wanted to make the move to East End Park:-

“Obviously, he used to be a striker as well, so within five minutes I knew Dunfermline was the club for me. I have spoken to a few people who know the gaffer and the way he works and that’s exactly what I want. I was told he would be the perfect manager and once I spoke to him I could see that.”

Stevie could not help notice Kevin scoring a number of goals in the league below and knew that scoring goals was something that he needed to address. The new boy is delighted to be coming to work under his new gaffer:-

“We sat and spoke for a while, about the season and what he wants to achieve. I’m still developing and I think he can take me to the next stage.

“I’m a good finisher, I can hold the ball up well and I can run the channels, but I still need to improve. I’m not the complete package yet, but hopefully under the gaffer this season I can progress my career.”

Stevie Crawford believes Kevin is at an age where he is keen and hopes that his best years are ahead of him. Making the change to the Rovers rivals was not something that Kevin didn’t really think about. He was much more interested in playing his football at a higher level, he continued:-

“For me, that’s the next stage in my career and it was basically a no-brainer for me. That’s why there was the clause put in my new contract, the no-promotion clause, because I knew that I had to step up.”

Kevin started his career in Patrick’s Thistle Weir Academy, had on loan spells with East Stirling, Ayr United and Dumbarton and also made 15 appearances for Partick Thistle before coming good at Raith Rovers. But he is realistic in his ambitions:-

“I had a good season but that’s behind me now. I need to kick on and work hard and progress. I’ve not really had good spells at Dumbarton and Ayr, I was in and out of the team and played in different positions. But, with Raith, I was played up front and from the very start I scored goals, and I kept that going.”

The striker just wants to continue where he left off last season:-

“I want to hit the ground running and score as many goals as I can, but it’s more about the team. The gaffer is building a really good squad and with a very good team spirit I think it could be a very good season for us.”

Kevin is just one of eight close season signings made by Stevie Crawford who is hoping that the striker is an exciting signing, the gaffer added:-

“Hopefully he will provide the boost that the club needs and can help our goalscoring abilities for the season ahead.”
