Schools Engagement programme hits 10k milestone

Tuesday, 2nd Jul 2019

Over 10,000 local children reached in the last 5 seasons.

Dunfermline Athletic Football Club is delighted to hear that the Schools Engagement Programme, supported by the Pars Foundation, has now reached over 10,000 local school children following the end of the 2018/19 season.

Run by a volunteer team of former school teachers, the programme aims to work in partnership with local schools to provide education, sport, health and wellbeing opportunities, while also promoting learning, achievement of knowledge, skills and attributes through interdisciplinary study based around Dunfermline Athletic.

The programme contains four separate themes bringing DAFC to the classroom and the classroom to DAFC. Classroom based `Pars Stars in the Media` aims to develop a range of literacy skills using football as a stimulus, such as creating match reports and commentating on game clips.

`Pars Tackle Health` Promotes positive attitudes towards good health and fitness in primary school children, including visits from Pars Players explaining their routines to keep fit and healthy followed by a football filled PE lesson.

Tours for Schools welcomes primary classes to East End Park for an access all areas tour of the stadium to learn about the wider employment related aspects in the world of football. This will also be joined by a new programme “World of Work,” a package for primary schools to study local jobs to help them think about careers and motivate them in their school work.

Lastly, aimed at upper High School Pupils, a Business Management class gives a real-life look at how the club markets itself to the many different segments of its fan base and explores the community interest club status as a type of social enterprise.

Formed during the 2014/15 season the Schools Engagement classes have now reached over 10,000 local school children during 438 sessions in dozens of local schools. This milestone comes after the `Pars Tackle Health` programme being awarded the SPFL Trust`s Community Project of the Year in April 2018.
