Andy Ryan pens new deal with DAFC

DAFC are pleased to announce that we have agreed with Andy Ryan a new one year contract, with an extension option for a further year.

Andy unluckily missed a large part of last season with a hip injury, but is now back to full fitness and we wish him well for the coming season.

Andy said that he was happy to sign his new deal and is now looking forward to the season ahead. He told the media:-

“The club have been good to me and since I first came here two years ago they have shown belief in me. Obviously with the injury as well they have looked after me properly and I can’t thank Ross and the club enough for that. I wanted to stay here and still think I have a lot to prove here.

“It was a season for everyone to forget if I am being honest, personally and for the club. That is over now and there is nothing we can do about that. We just need to look forward to the season coming up.”

The 24 year old striker played in 19 of the Pars league and cup matches last season up until mid November when injury struck and he was to miss the rest of the season all but the final match at Inverness:-

“I feel good. There are different stages of rehab, training and gym work. I came on for the last twenty five minutes up at Inverness was the final stage. I feel good and away from the club I have been running. That has been going fine - no injuries and no problem with the hip. Hopefully this time it can be an injury free season.

“Maybe some people take it for granted but until you have had a long term injury you don’t realise how much you miss it. It was good to get back on the pitch again.

“I had to accept that I would be out for a lengthy period of time. I just had to make sure that I got the best rehab which I did from the medical team here. I tried to stay positive and keep a smile on my face every day to get through it.

“Ultimately that was the reward getting back on the pitch away to Inverness.

“One of the reasons that I did sign was that I feel that the gaffer here and Shieldsie can make me a better player. That is what I want, I just want to improve as a player.

“I have had discussions with the gaffer and Shieldsie over the last couple of weeks and the way they want the club to go i can only see having a positive impact.”

With a number of new signings Andy feels that there will be a freshness to the squad:-

“With so many players leaving you need to replace them. I don’t know the ins and outs but we will have three or four weeks to get used to what they want us to do.

Andy agreed that he will find pre season exciting even though for most it is the dreaded time of year:-

“For me this pre season I just want to come back as fit as I can and push on. In the past I have not looked forward to coming back for pre season but it is the nitty gritty, the hard stuff that has to be done.

“It has been frustrating not playing and picking up injuries but I still have to prove that I can score goals at this level. I firmly believe if I can get a good pre season under my belt and some game time then I think I can do that.”
