Lewis ready for next season
Friday, 3rd May 2019Lewis Martin’s longest season for just two appearances
Lewis Martin has had a hard season but that is through lack of games rather than too many. His first appearance came last Saturday as a late substitute in the match against Morton.
”I was thinking that I was not going to be ready to play this season but obviously I got back with two weeks to go. It is good to be back but it is only two weeks, good to be back but frustrating.
”I will need to keep fit over the summer. I am going on holiday but I will need to keep working through that.”
Lewis’ injury was hard to diagnose and it took some time to get to the root of his problem.
”The injured boys and John Porteous helped me through it. I travel in with Sean Murdoch and he has helped me through a lot. He came in every day and we both worked hard to get fit.”
Lewis made the first of his 130 Pars appearances six years ago but the 23 year old defender is out of contract at the end of the season. He feels that the gaffer knows him well and appreciates what he can bring to the team.
”I will do my best if I get a game on Saturday. No contracts have been talked about yet and we need get that big game out of the way first.
”I have played here for a good few years and I enjoy it here. I was playing well at the end of last season and then had a hernia operation at the start of this season. I was just getting back into it and I was meant to play but I was unwell.
”I didn`t play that and then got injured. It has been very disappointing but it will just need to be next season.”
Lewis looked good playing in the first 45 minutes of Tuesday night’s Fife Cup tie at Starks Park. Jackson Longridge is suspended for Saturday`s match so Lewis must have a good chance of being handed a role against Inverness Caley Thistle.
