Mental Health Awareness
Monday, 17th Jun 2019Mental Health Awareness sessions at East End Park
Week 3 tomorrow 19th June 7pm
Following a recent mental health awareness presentation to the Dunfermline Athletic Disabled Supporters Club by Pars fan and qualified Mental Health First Aid instructor Eddie Martin, and subsequent discussions with the DAFC Board, DAFC are pleased to offer their support in raising mental health awareness.
East End Park will host a series of three meetings over the coming months with the first meeting taking place on Wednesday, 8th May between 7pm and 9pm. Further meetings are planned for 29th May and 19th June.
The meetings will be a safe place for any supporters who wish to attend. Rather than being therapeutic, these sessions will offer awareness, support and an opportunity to talk. Together with Eddie, a further two Mental Health First Aiders will be in attendance at each meeting. The venue will create an informal atmosphere giving a sense of home and belonging set during them.
The sessions will discuss such topics as anxiety, depression, the use of alcohol and drugs, suicide and recovery and it’s hoped that volunteers might come forward to be trained as Mental Health First Aiders, at a later date, where training will be provided free of charge.
Should you have any questions or would like more information ahead of the first meeting on 8th May, please email andrew@dafc.co.uk or call 07809 176509.
Week 2 29th May 7pm at East End Park
All are welcome even if you were unable to attend the first session earlier this month. There will also be a short presentation by Neil Philp from Start Scotland who offer a flexible employment support service for everyone, no matter their circumstances.
Week 3 19th June 7pm at East End Park
The next session will concentrate on suicide and recovery. It will follow the same format with power point presentation, flip chart activity and discussion.
An understanding of suicide and why we should talk about it. Discussion on why suicide is a community health problem and an explanation on choose life, the national strategy and action plan for Scotland to prevent suicide.
Recovery will concentrate on that it is both possible and likely. There will be an explanation on C.H.I.M.E Which is a framework with 5 processes to help support recovery.
Mindfulness and well being exercise at the end.
Finishing off with an understanding of what a mental health first aider is and an opportunity to volunteer to take training at a later date.
