Devine can’t hide delight
Thursday, 28th Feb 2019Danny Devine:- “We have bought right into his ideas in terms of what he wants to do and what he wants us to do out on the pitch.
“Absolutely delighted” was Danny Devine’s mood after the 3-0 home win over Partick Thistle on Tuesday night, all the more so because it sealed a fine three game winning run. He reflected:-
“If you look back to a couple of weeks ago before the Inverness game, if they had beaten us I think they would have gone eleven points ahead. To be in the position that we are in now is credit to the boys, the manager, the coaching staff, everyone at the club.
“There is a real togetherness now and we are looking forward. Ever since the new manager has come in we have bought right into his ideas in terms of what he wants to do and what he wants us to do out on the pitch.
“We know that it has not been good enough this season but there is a new spirit there in the changing room and a new togetherness and we are just looking forward.”
It was his 28 start for Dunfermline since joining in June from Tuesday’s opponents but with his 74th minute header it was just Danny’s second goal of the season. He described how the new coaching staff had him working at creating more of a threat at setpieces.
“Callum (Davidson) and Greg (Shields) have been doing some setpieces in training with us. I don’t think we have been effective enough this season from setpieces so it was good to see it paying off. Hopefully it carries on.
“We are delighted with the win, we have carried on our good form from the last two games. Clean sheet as well which is always good. We can keep building on them so very happy.
“Thistle are fighting for their lives at the minute so we knew that it was going to be tough with them coming here. The first half was scrappy, it wasn’t great and we said that at half time.
“We said in the changing room that we had to make sure that we were the team that went out, gets on the front foot and goes looking for the goals.”
Danny’s goal came in 76 minutes but he was instrumental in making the opener just 105 seconds into the second half. After Kallum Higginbotham had forced a corner on the right, Ryan Blair picked out Danny and his downward header was turned in by a bruce Anderson. He commented:-
“It is very unusual but I’ll take them when they come, I was very happy about that.”
By scoring against his old club he ensured that Thistle remained rooted to the foot of the table. He added:-
“They are going through a tough time at the minute but it was similar circumstances at their place when they beat us 2-0. Luckily for us we have come out with the victory this time.
“They will obviously be down, we knew that would come here fighting for their lives, we wish them all the best but it is about us.
“It is not nice seeing them struggling. I still know some of the lads there but we are trying to concentrate on ourselves and trying to push up the table as far as we can. I think we just need to concentrate on us and take every game as it comes.“
