Louis VI crowns victory

Monday, 25th Feb 2019

Louis Longridge self appointed penalty king sealed the three points for the Pars in Saturday’s away game at Ayr.

Louis Longridge is not concerned about becoming the super sub at Dunfermline. He made a big impact at Ayr and now has his sights on a starting place. He said:-

“I didn’t start the game on Saturday. I spoke to the manager and backroom staff and they all keep me positive so that when I come on I try to make the difference and try and have that impact.

“Obviously having been out injured for a couple of months, it is all about getting minutes. I am glad that I managed to pop up with the winner at Ayr.”

After two games as a substitute, Louis is seeking his first Dunfermline start since 27th October.

“I will go along with whatever decision the gaffer comes up with. Obviously they are maybe concerned in the back of their minds that because I have been out for a couple of months that I don’t breakdown by throwing me in too soon.

“Whether I start on Tuesday or whether I come off the bench as they feel the necessary substitutions are needed or in the starting line up, I am only looking at the minutes that I am on the park, to have the impact that I had at Ayr.

“I felt that I picked up some good areas and I feel a hundred per cent sharp. Maybe at times I was maybe holding on to the ball a little too long and not releasing the ball sharper than I would normally do.

“It is good to get the minutes and I know as each game goes by I will get sharper. Hopefully I can help the team with assists and goals.”

Louis’ 71st penalty conversion gave him the perfect opportunity to crown his return with his sixth Dunfermline goal.

When the penalty was awarded at Ayr, Louis was determined to seize the opportunity to return to the scoresheet:-

“I am always confident, I don’t think I have missed a penalty in senior football. This season I have scored from a couple so there was never any doubt if I got the ball I was going to put it away.”

Louis was asked who decided who was taking the penalty? To which he answered with a naughty schoolboy smile “me”. The sub rushed over and took the ball off Ryan Blair:-

“I think there were a couple of boys asking me ‘are you sure you can take it’. I said ‘yes, I’m on it!”

Reflecting on jumping from seventh to fifth place in the Championship table Louis added:-

“Moving up the table is our primary target but we shouldn’t get too far ahead of ourselves. We will focus on the position above us and try and leapfrog them. We managed to do that on Saturday and now it is all about building momentum.

“We have a game on Tuesday which good that it coming fast. Partick will be difficult opponents but we are at home so we will be trying to get another three points. We will take it game by game until the end of the season.”
