Scully ready for Somerset Park test

Friday, 22nd Feb 2019

“We need to kill off games, we need to improve on that and stop it being that nervy last ten to fifteen minutes.”

It was good and extremely important to get the victory over Inverness Caley Thistle last weekend claimed Pars keeperRyan Scully :-

“It was a massive win for us. A bit of relief to the whole team and it gives us a chance to build. There is a good vibe throughout the whole changing room, we have a taste of it now and we just need to keep that momentum going.

“The league is so tight just now so we knew three points were a must or else it would have been a hard next few games for us. It still is but the win gives us something to build on. A bit more confidence and a bit more belief to go and start winning games.

“We know that we are good enough on our day, it is just about putting the ball in the back of the net. I try to keep as many clean sheets as well. Hopefully we can get a good result on Saturday.

“It is not nice when you are going through a run of bad results even though the team is probably playing not too badly. Like in the Ross County game and the Morton game we could have taken the three points out of both games.”

Falkirk and Partick Thistle are starting to pick up results but Ryan claimed that will happen until the end of the season. He stressed the old cliche regards focusing on your own game.

“You are aware of the results around you so we knew that we had to three points, especially since we were at home. We are looking up and just now our aim is sixth. We need to get above Morton and take it from there game by game.”

Saturday’s opponents Ayr United sit second in the league despite winning only two matches in their last nine league games. Ryan is well aware however that they are still very dangerous especially with Lawrence Shankland back.

“They have had a great season so far. I don’t think anybody would have expected them to be doing so well but the are there for a reason because they deserve to be. We will not be taking them lightly.

“Obviously they haven’t got the results they probably wanted in the last few weeks but we know how difficult they can be, especially at home. We will go there giving them our full respect but as I say if we perform to anywhere near the capabilities that we have we are confident of getting the three points.”

The 26 year old stopper will be up against players who were his team mates while he was on loan at Dunfermline in seasons 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. “We will shake hands before the game but during the game they can step aside. Moff and Geggs are good lads but hopefully they don’t get the result on Saturday.”

Saturday’s clean sheet was Ryan’s second in three games on his return to Dunfermline Athletic and he knows that defending well is imperative:-

“If you keep a clean sheet there is a good chance that you will get a result on Saturday. It has been hard this season defending well but just not getting the chances to put the ball in the net. It naturally puts pressure on the defence and back line.

“Teams will always get chances but we just have to stick to our own jobs, defend as well as we can and we know if we keep clean sheets it gives the boys a better chance of winning.

“We need to kill off games, we need to improve on that to stop it being that nervy last ten to fifteen minutes.”

Ryan is pleased to be back at Dunfermline, he closed:-

“There are a few old faces here as well and it is great to be involved again with the team. It is obviously a team I have a lot of fond memories of and once the chance came about it was a no brainer for me to come back. It is just about trying to get as much success out of the season as possible.”
