Bruce’s scoring obsession

Monday, 4th Feb 2019

“I am happy to take the responsibility of scoring the goals here. It is something that hopefully I can thrive on.”

Bruce Anderson got off to a great start on Saturday for his new club when he hit Dunfermline into a 41st minute lead against the Championship leaders Ross County. His debut came just two days after a deal was done with Aberdeen to bringing him on loan to East End Park until the end of the season.

Delighted that it was a scoring debut Bruce explained he was still disappointed with the game:-

“We are all gutted that we didn’t see it out to get the result. I am happy to score but the main thing is the result and we didn’t manage to get it.

“We will look to the next game, look at what we need to get better at and hopefully improve.”

Bruce revealed that he had heard that Dunfermline were interested in him a couple of weeks ago.

“Nothing was official but as soon as I heard about it I had my mind set to come. I had a conversation with the manager here and I was wanting to come here as soon as I spoke to him. I think I will learn a lot from him because he played in the same position.

“It wasn’t until the last day (of the transfer window) that we managed to get it done. I am delighted to be here.”

Bruce had not trained with the Pars squad before starting his first match for them on Saturday

“I came straight in. Ideally I would have liked to have trained on Friday but I couldn’t. The boys have been so welcoming and I am looking forward to the rest of the season.

“I am always confident that whenever I play I am going to score. I am happy to take the responsibility of scoring the goals here. It is something that hopefully I can thrive on.”

He admitted to possibly being a little rusty and on another day might have will scored four.

“I just want to score as much as I can, I am obsessed with scoring goals. It is just part of the role of being a striker and I like the pressure of it. I am desperate to do well here.”

The new striker is sharing accommodation with Faissal El Bakhtaoui and it appeared that on the park they linked up well, he commented:-

“I enjoyed playing with him, so we will see if we can build up that partnership in future. We seem to have a connection already.”

The 20 year old has made a remarkable recovery since sustaining an injury an hour into Aberdeen’s Premiership match at Livingston on 29 December.

“I feel quite lucky because I was told that my season was over. Somehow I have managed to get myself back fit. I feel good it is my first game this year, I still need to get sharper. There is more to come from me but I’m getting there slowly.”

Bruce explained how his shoulder injury recovered faster than expected and when he went for a scan it revealed a good outcome.

“I have been working on strengthening and obviously that has helped it.

Bruce made 14 appearances when out on loan to Elgin City last season and this season has seen him make his Aberdeen debut, scoring the last minute equaliser against Rangers after coming on as a 71st minute sub for Sam Cosgrove.

Then when making his first start for the Dons he was unlucky to pick up the shoulder injury, he added:-

“The season has been a bit of madness, especially after the Rangers game. I want to be playing, that is the main thing for me. I am hungry to do well, I am delighted to come here and I am sure that it is good for all parties.”
