In addition to the one point, Stevie Crawford felt that the clean sheet at Cappielow was a result. After the game he told the media:-
“We are happy with a clean sheet, Ryan (Scully) has come in and after the disappointment of losing the three goals last week we have tightened up at the back.
“We lost Mark Durnan through the week again so James Craigen is playing at right back because we are limited with the personnel that we have at the back at the moment.
“To come here with a bit of pressure on us with the way last week turned out, we are very happy that we have come down here and got a clean sheet.”
Clearly a good defensive performance but there is still the need to score goals. Stevie claimed that was something that they would have to work at.
“You can see that we had a couple of chances in the first half and we worked on attacking plays through the week. We are just in and we will continue to do that but the boys cannot be faulted for their effort. We are just going to have to be a little bit more street wise, keep working hard to try and get in positions and then hopefully then the goals will come.”
There was only one change to the outfield selection, that bringing in Callum Smith for Myles Hippolyte. SC commented:-
“We just felt that it was right to change it. We changed the shape, we went with a diamond in midfield, two strikers to see if that could unsettle Morton. Callum has come in, he has worked hard but probably didn’t get any clear cut chances. That is not having a dig at Callum I thought his attitude and commitment to the cause today was really good.”
The manager was delighted for Ryan Scully keeping his old club out on his second Dunfermline debut against the club he was on the bench for in their last game.
“It is hard to come back to your old club at the best of times, but to do it here after us getting hold of him during the week. It is great for him, something we can build on and look towards adding another couple before the transfer window closes.
“We have got to be looking for fourth place. It is frustrating and we will take on the chin stuff that we worked on through the week that didn’t come to fruition on the attacking plays. Having played upfront myself I know that you can go through spells and you just have to keep working with them.
“In training trying to make it lively, realistic and boys getting confidence by hitting the net. That has been happening, unfortunately we are not seeing that at the moment in the three games in which I have been in charge.
“We will persevere, keep working to try and help the boys and develop them. It is something that we will continue to do.”
Asked what could be expected before the transfer window closes, SC said:-
“We are looking at a couple of things. It is a difficult to add in January at the best of times. All I can say that Ross and the board are trying their hardest to try and back us. I don’t want to go out and add people for the sake of adding. I think that is wrong for where we are at the moment.
“I want players to come in like Ryan has done today, he has done very well. I want players who will come in and make an impact between now and the end of the season for us. If we can get a couple great, if we can’t it is not as if we are not sitting doing our homework and trying to bring people in.”
