New start but switch off costs

Sunday, 13th Jan 2019

“We definitely switched off at the goal, everyone can see that. The lad knows that he has switched off as well, he was talking to the referee.

James Vincent came close to firing in the first goal of the Stevie Crawford era in the latter part of the first half at Tannadice on Saturday. Ultimately there was to be no first match victory for the new manager but James revealed how the players felt after a week in which the club parted company with Allan Johnston and Sandy Clark.

“The feeling in the camp is good in a way, we are happier by how we performed just disappointed by how we lost the goal. I don’t think it reflected the overall ninety minutes and we are frustrated not to come away with at least a draw.

“We definitely switched off at the goal, everyone can see that. The lad knows that he has switched off as well, he was talking to the referee. It is something that we will look to cut out going forward and it is just unfortunate that we maybe didn’t deal as well with the second phase of play.

“It comes from a source that we know we need to cut that out because we have chances that we could maybe have put away ourselves. Myself as well, I had one in the first half and could have scored. I maybe hit it too well.”

“The lads found out during the week that we were changing manager and that Stevie Crawford was going to become the new manager. From that side of it, it was good because everyone respects Craw - the gaffer.

“It has been a short turn around, it has been fun. He has put a few ideas to us and we approached the game in the right way. The plan he put towards us was working but unfortunately we switched off for the goal and didn’t quite get the result that we needed.”
