Goal but no New Year Sláinte for Aidan Keena

“I wouldn’t say at 2-0 up that we felt that it was job done but you are well on the way to thinking that it’s well on the way to being job done.

Striker Aidan Keena shot Dunfermline into a 1-0 lead over Alloa on Saturday and before the half hour mark his cross caused Alloa Athletic to concede a second. The 19 year from Mullingar in the Republic of Ireland was as puzzled as everyone else how such a good first half turned into such a different second.

“At half time we were obviously confident that we had played well and dominated in the first half but they got the early goal in the second half.

“I don’t know if that kind of knocked the wind out of us a bit or the just got a spike in confidence but we never seemed to come back from it.

The opening goal was Aidan’s fourth in 11 appearances and he observed just how comfortable it had been up until losing a 49th minute goal to the visitors:-

“We had the ball for large parts, passing it well and keeping it. We scored the two goals as well but it was unlucky to concede so early in the second half. Then again at the end, it was a great finish from him.

“You are at your most confident as a player when you are playing well as a team and passing it about. Obviously for me scoring the goal made me feel confident and you don’t even think that they have a way back into it but football changes like that.

“I wouldn’t say at 2-0 up that we felt that it was job done but you are well on the way to thinking that it’s well on the way to being job done. You are hoping that if you could maybe nick one more goal that it would be job done but fair play to Alloa they stuck in there and got the goal early in the second half.”

Despite not winning, Aidan admitted that he is happy to be playing for Dunfermline Athletic and getting regular first team football:-

“As far as I know I am here until the end of the season. Obviously if the opportunity did come up to go back to Hearts it is maybe something that I would look at. If I was going to be playing, you want t be playing at the highest level you can. If I am not going to be playing at Hearts then I am happy playing football here.”
