Faiss spot on with first strike Bak home

Monday, 3rd Dec 2018

“When you don’t score you just keep thinking and thinking what I need to do.

A very happy Faissal El Bakhtaoui was delighted to face the media after breaking his goal famine against Morton on Saturday and explained how he was given the opportunity by his selfless team mates.

“I am happy to score my first goal in the league, I know it was a penalty. Crags wanted to take it and when it is a penalty I never go to the guys and ask to take the penalty. This one was at home and I really wanted to take it. I said to Crags please let me take it, I will give you the next one. He said ‘that’s not a problem’.

“I was happy with Crags because to be honest I knew that I was going to score. That was why I was confident and I needed my confidence back. I know I scored a penalty but you feel better when you score any goal.

Faiss felt that he formed a good partnership with his 19 year old co striker Aidan Keena who also had lobbied James Craigen to prise the ball off him and allow Faiss the chance from the penalty that he had earned as his former team mate Gregor Buchanan halted him on the left side of the Morton box:-

“He is a great player and he helped me a lot. He said ‘today you are going to score’. We helped each other during the game and it is a good partnership to be honest.”

It has been a lean period since scoring twice on his return debut at Brechin on 25th July but the French Moroccan who is on loan from Dundee felt that despite starting 15 matches since he hadn’t really been presented with many chances since.

“I work hard, the manager and Stephen Crawford help me a lot. Sandy Clark kept telling to relax, the goal and the chances will come. I am just relaxing and trying to get the chances to score.”

Faiss admitted to feeling really frustrated by not scoring and his team mates and manager have told he not to let me hat get to him.

“That helped me a lot. When you don’t score you just keep thinking and thinking what I need to do. I just worked hard and tried to get the goal every Saturday and try and get the chances.”

The goal at Ross County the previous week came as a consequence of Faiss’ fierce shot that the keeper parried on to defender Ross Draper’s shin and back into the net.

“I shot and the save from the goalkeeper went in. They gave it to Jacko, I don’t mind about that. The most important thing is to work hard for the team and the result first.”

The 3-0 win was the first home win since the end of September five games back and the 26 year old expects that to give the team a boost.

“That is just our second in the league at home. The gaffer said in the dressing room before the game that we have been really poor at home and we needed to show more aggression and play better than in the other games. That is what we did today, we showed more aggression on the pitch and I think we deserved the three points.

“I think we need that win at home. After the game everyone in the changing room was really happy and different than the weeks before. That is going to help us to push on.

“I want to start scoring more goals now and will work hard every week to get my goals.”
