Manager Allan Johnston was delighted to see his side win their second home win of the season’s league campaign, he told the media:-

“I thought the boys showed a lot of character because the results at home have not been good enough and it must have been a frustrating time for the fans, turning up at their home games and getting beat by the odd goal.

“That was more like ourselves, we had more shots on target, we worked the keeper more and obviously it is nice to score a few goals.”

The opening goal that is always so important came as early as the fourth minute and AJ agreed that gave his side a great platform on which to build on.

“It does. I thought that there were a lot of good individual performances today. I thought Robbie Muirhead did really well, Joe Thomson in the middle of the park and our strikers caused them problems all game as well. A lot to work on, a lot to build on but you can see the quality that we have got and it is up to us now to put a run together.”

Asked if it was a relief to get the win at home

“It has been a long time coming, it has been hard, a difficult period and a frustrating period when you look at some of the games that we have been beaten. I don’t think we deserved it but at the end of the day we have closed the gap, I think there is four points to fourth place.

“It is up to us to put a run together, a lot of important games against teams round about us in the next month or so. It is a great opportunity to build on that result today.

“I thought we were outstanding in the first half, the movement and the pace that we played at. We created a lot of opportunities, a lot of shots and probably could have scored a couple more. Second half when they changed their system and were maybe a wee bit more direct the game became really scrappy for both teams.

“We could probably have passed it better when we won the ball back and countered. That is one of the wee things that we have to work on. You can understand that with the results that we have had of late.”

The second goal came from the penalty spot and the manager revealed that he had not designated a penalty taker for when one might have been awarded:-

“It is whoever is confident to take it. Faiss has not hit a lot of penalties in his career but he was desperate to go and take it. That is what you want to see - your strikers taking responsibility of taking the ball and go and score. I am delighted for him, you can see the confidence starting to return. Even in training you see the difference as well.

“Aidan Keena’s movement was good, he got chances and his goal was just a typical strikers goal. James Craigen has been moved about this year to every position in the team, he is a great lad and works incredibly hard for the team. He never complains when we shift him about into different position and he came in to put in another top performance today.”
