Ryso claims fans can give big lift

“It was just two mistakes from set plays that killed us.

The Dunfermline Athletic players travelled north last weekend with fresh hope that they could get their season back on track. It had been a long wait to put things right since the defeat to Falkirk but to then have to play Ross County with ten men for 76 minutes severely curtailed the travellers’ aspirations.Ryan Williamson expressed the team’s disappointment of last Saturday:-

“Even at that we still probably created more chances than people would have expected. We limited them to clear cut chances but overall it was disappointing because we knew that the team was more than capable of going and getting a result. It just wasn’t meant to be.

“We have just got to forget about what is done and go again on Saturday I suppose. It was disappointing to lose Higgy early on, he knows that he has made a mistake and shouldn’t have done it. He has apologised to all the boys.

“We still lost stupid goals from setpieces. It is not as if they have cut us open or scored wonder goals. It was just two mistakes from set plays that killed us. It made it a harder shift for us playing so long with just ten men. Our effort and our commitment could not be faulted. We did make a good account of ourselves playing so long with a man short.

“We watched the goals back on Monday morning and obviously the first goal there has been miscommunication with the man coming short back the park has caught us out. We left the man on the edge of the box free.

“We plan before the game in terms of picking up but sometimes the situation changes. Like at the one before the opening goal Mal (Martin) ended up being off with a head knock. You don’t know what is going to happen but you have to adjust to it and re- organise as soon as possible when the setplays are given away. Unfortunately we didn’t do that on two occasions and it killed us.”

Ryan knows that home form has been poor and stressed that things needed to be put right in the games played at East End Park.

“From a fans point of view it must be very frustrating. We have to deal with the atmosphere and keep working hard. I’m sure if we do that on Saturday and we all stick to our jobs we are more than capable of picking up three points.

“It is tough for all of us going through a patch like this. We were set out to go and try and win this league and obviously things have not gone to plan. We have had meetings and we know that with the quality that we have in the squad we are more than capable of going on a run.

“In terms of the atmosphere, we just want to encourage the fans to get behind us as much as they can. When they keep supporting us it is much appreciated, having the fans behind us gives us a big lift and as a player it makes a big difference.”

Ryan has had a disappointing season so far with injuries restricting him to just 11 appearances so far. He feels that his performances have not been as good as last season:-

“I have just got to keep my head down and try and get a run in the team. I know myself that I have things that I need to improve on and work hard at. I am trying to do as much as I can everyday to try and improve different sides of my game.

“There is nothing more frustrating as a footballer as when you go out, ready to go and things don’t work for you. You need to deal with the highs and lows, they happen but you just have to take it as it comes.”
